Supergirl season 2, How does such a colossal, enormous, stupendously crappy show survive.

I've only seen partial episodes here and there and while I think the anger at this show might be because of the higher hopes held in the possibility of the the material I would contend that there are many shows out there that are far worse.

While the parts I've seen never annoyed me they also didn't make me want to go out of my way to watch other episodes. So I can see how if one is a huge fan of the genre it could be disappointing based on expectations. But if forced to watch something there would be at least half the shows on TV (and quite a few modern movies) that would be worse to sit through.

Stimpy and trans, what was your take on the 2011 Conan The Barbarian reboot? Checking now, imdb isn't too kind. I remember liking it quite a bit (heck, it has Hellboy in it! :) ) and thought the visuals were top-notch. Am I delusional?

Personally, I liked it. I thought that the film makers got more right than wrong. To me, it felt like sword-and-sorcery. A rare thing.

Now granted, the boy Conan displayed more ferocity than the adult Conan. But, it was brutal and graphic, which should be expected. So, I thought it was a fun watch. I wish it had done well enough to warrant a sequel. Even with Khal Drogo as Conan.
 
I grew up on Marvel comics, then got hooked on DC, Image and Dark Horse later in life. Conan always looked interesting but I never collected. These days, you can get nearly anything in Trade Paperback form. Any suggestions for Conan? Is there one era, artist or writer you'd recommend? Where should a newb look? Are the Busiek/Nord versions a good starting point?

Apologies for hijacking the Supergirl thread. Never watched it, it looks/looked terrible. :)

Start with the Original books of Robert E. Howard his first Conan book was published in 1935. I was just looking on Amazon you can get "The Complete Works of Robert E. Howard" in a Kindle edition for $2.99. Be sure to include the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs.

Thanks for the tip! Not a bad price. Especially considering that Amazon wants $9.99 a piece for each Kindle novel of the Jim Butcher Harry Dresden series! A little steep. And I agree, with Robert E. Howard and Conan, you have to start with the original literature. Howard was a damn fine writer, and those stories will be much more entertaining than Supergirl. And if they have the Frazetta illustrations, just as good looking too! :D
