Supreme 500 or 700m or Marantz 2385. What should I decide?

Okay, my birthday was this past wednesday and my parents know I want a receiver or amp for my birthday. So, I have a choice between a Kenwood Supreme 500 and 700m. I also have the choice of a Marantz 2385 receiver too.

So, which one is best? The Supreme 500 is for sale here on AK. The Supreme 700m and the Marantz 2385 is for sale on the auction site. So, which one do you all think is the best? All feedback is welcomed!

Here are the links to the auctions.

Those are all really expensive.

My opinion is to settle with what you have and upgrade your speakers because you will not need 185 watts per channel with bookshelf speakers!

Thats true, but I've been searching for one of these amps for the past year and a half.

Then do it,
maybe you should put a wanted ad up here and on craigslist, its free and you could get one for a lower price because of nice people or by bartering.

700m's are rare, and thats less then half the going rate on a stock one. You might see two a year on ebay. I doubt very seriously a Craigslist inquiry will turn up anything..

Maybe the money saved from that one could go towards getting it EW'd. :thmbsp:

Okay, I'll go for that one.

Marantzfan, what do you think of those 2 marantz 2385s I have listed up their?

I'll use my Ka-9100 for a pre-amp until I get a pre-amp.

Do you know of any good pre-amps for the 700m other than the 700c?

Looks like both of those receiver will finish higher then the Kenny. There's no bargain to be had on either one..

As for preamps, well, the skys the limit. Obviously a 700c would asthetically be the best, but trust me brother, it takes alot of patience to find one.

If not the 700c, then any respectable preamp will do the job. Theres a long list I would consider...

So, ya'll are saying to go for the Kenwood 700m then?

Those 2 receivers look like they will need some work before I can put it into service.

As for the 700m its just plug and play and its ready to go for the next 30 years or more.

Right or not?

Yes.

Be on it though, someone may be watching.

If you think the current price of $265 is anywhere near what the final auction price is, you're in for a shock. Do not expect that 700M to go for less than $500, and considering what he has invested, should sell for $750+ in a fairer world (but prices are depressed right now, so $550 might be closer to a reasonable guess).

I don't know why he doesn't have a reserve on it...I would not consider letting it go for anything under $600 (and even that is at a considerable loss, since I know what he spent having it rebuilt).
