SUT Camouflage!!!

@AvFan Those look great…. HM 3 SUT looks very good with the wood sides, did you build it yourself, and are there high inputs on the opposite side?

Andy, I think your issue is environmental, could be the SUT is situated to close to something or the RCA cables are to close to something. That was very quiet in my system as is the AU-340 that replaced it. I was surprised when I first installed it, I had hear stories about hum and such but it proved to be dead quiet.
If you go to Vinyl Engine and download the manual, it states it's triple shielded, or in their words
"The transformer, covered with triple electro-magnetic shieldings and housed in a iron case, is well protected against external induction noise".
The specs are remarkable as well, flat to within 1db from 10 to 100,000Hz.
Try it in another location if you can. The nice thing about magnetic interference is how rapidly it falls off by adding just a little bit of distance.

Thanks! Yes, I did put together the HM-3 enclosure. The enclosure is a powder coated Hammond RM 4"x8"x1U and the engraver used a laser to cut the letters through to the aluminum below. The walnut came from @mkane's property. The load jacks can be configured to either the primary or secondary sides of the transformers by moving/resoldering a wire inside. I wired it only for 1:20 as most modern cartridges don't need the gain from the HM-3's 40:1 ratio. This is the front:

I’m sure you’re right….It’s probably sitting in the worse position at the moment, was planning on moving the tables around which would allow the SUT to sit adjacent a table, but just haven’t gotten around to it….

That’s fantastic, looks good from every angle….seen some use switched high/low and some use opposite inputs, but understand your point about cartridges, and it’s much more simplistic. The two things that I’m implementing is the tonearm selection and bypass switch, akin to the AU 320. Those 320 features are very useful in my system….

Adding switches certainly can increase flexibility/utility and most SUTs include them. FYI, I'm finding the 1:20 is a bit much for most of my carts so the HM-7s are wired at only 15:1. Have fun sorting out your SUT needs.
