SX 1250 FM is dead

B&D is usually pretty reliable. I've had success with some of their offereings for obsolete items.

Good news I think, I replaced the TA7601 and all correct voltages returned to TA7601. pin 9 was low on HA 1196 but no stereo light? Then I pushed in the muting button and pin 9 went to 13.6v. turned muting back off and crap pin 9 still on 13.6v.

Im going to try too align Mpx, but my sg 165 does not work. I did receive my HP 8904a and have tested it and it seems to work, however I don't know hoe to properly use th FM stereo on it. I do know how to hook it up to my HP 8756A

if anyone knows how to set up the 8904a please help

Thanks

also Pin 10 on HA 1196 was not reading correctly , I removed C43 (I installed a film cap when I reaped the tuner board of the same value that was there) and reinstalled cap that was originally installed and now voltage reads as it should.

I feel I'm down to alignment to get the stereo light working, But. another issue needs to be addressed upper core of T2 is stuck, the closest I can get to is 24mv to ground from pin 43. should be +/- 10mv

any advice Lon how to free upper core or how to find a replacement/

A coil former mfg once told me to spray some silicone in the threads to free them up a bit for the core to turn. be very gentle, they break so easy, try rocking back n forth never force.
Probably best to leave it alone

I'd like to help but this thread is too confusing to follow, plus too many pilots is no good either.
To make it easy for me and the next chap with the same issues, try to list the faults and the fixes, one by one in a summary

Learning is reading, like "does anyone know what pin the input comes into HA1196 to tell it to turn pin 13 to low"
I say read the datasheet perhaps, just like I would be doing since I do not know for sure, I'll guess 25mV of 19kHz pilot, How about you check to see what Hitachi data sheet says.

Good luck

So I set this aside for about a year, and I'm now ready to revisit this. Hopefully the experience I have gained in the last year will help.

So as it stands today

I have done an alignment on the front end, and believe it is aligned very well. FM works and the runner is very sensitive. The muting circuit works as intended. The only issue that remains is I cannot get it to work in FM stereo, no stereo and no light. Can't get pin 9 on HA1196 to go low

I have completed the alignment on the Tuner assembly through to the ratio detector and I believe it is correct. I have not completed
Multiplex decoder alignment section

when I hook up my Sencore SG80 I do not get any stereo signals out of the record out jacks, I do get two mono signals out

Thanks for any help

I Just noticed when I probe TP 9. I get a saw tooth wave as expected , but its 80.4 khz not the expected 76khz.

Should I be concerned about this?

I found 2 bad ceramic caps C15, C16 across TA 7061AP. pin 2 and 4, and pin 5 and 7. Once I replaced both and adjusted vr 3 it now works!

It sounds awesome!

I should leave well enough alone but, I will do alignment procedure 1 more time to be sure its perfect

Well done! Always feels good to repair a piece of gear and get it working again.
