SX-315 and M61540FP chip

I don't want to debate whether or not this receiver is worth fixing. I know it's a POS. I'm doing it for the challenge.

Does anyone have experience with this receiver or the M61540FP chip? I send in a 1kH 1V signal, and I get a 1kH 600mV signal out of the DSP board. So the receiver does produce output, albeit with very low volume.

The signal is fine when it enters the chip, but lower when it comes out. From what I can tell this chip is some sort of electronic volume control. Has anyone ever used one of these receivers? Could there be a "remote only" function I need to magically tell this chip to turn the volume back up?

Any help would be appreciated.

Is there a volume control on the receiver? That should duplicate the function of the remote. It's worth trying a remote in case volume knob doesn't work.
 
Yes, I tried the volume knob. I also went through every option available from the setup menu on the front panel. I got it working by doing a reset, procedure found in the owners manual, but not the service guide. So I suspect this is something that Pioneer expected to be done periodically. There is a mute button on the remote, but not the front panel. Possibly it was stuck on? Not sure. I would think adjusting the volume would turn off the mute though...

Either way it's now working. The FM tuner is horrible, picks up about 10 stations connected to my aerial. Everything else gets dozens of stations. Power as I measure it is 76.5W. Not near the rated 100W, so there may still be more wrong with it. Or it's just a POS.
