Had severe distortion in left channel of a Sony STR-7055, traced it to a bad transistor in the preamp, replaced it, clean sound but the low volume remained.
Confirmed it wasn't an amp issue by flipping the separate switch on the back and using another pre to test. Equal and clean volume from...
Hi Everyone,
I recently got a old NAD C370 that someone asked me to repair.
I'm not a electronics expert but i know something about electronics and repair lots of older electronics.
The Amp was in protection mode, so i downloaded the service manual to see how it is built.
So when i got it in...
I was advised here to use a pair of Minimus 7's that I happened to have in storage, up top the kitchen cupboards for low volume listening.
I added a sub, and it was an excellent suggestion.
I read somewhere that Canton also makes a small speaker that would be an improvement to the Min7 in this...
Hello all. New to this forum. I have a Technics SU-X302 and on all inputs the speaker volume is very very low. Same problem when connecting headphones. Also the balance is not working. Any idea where to start? Thanks a lot!
Recently picked up this deck off eBay with the seller claiming "low volume output." I assumed it might have just been a little difficult to hear, but apparently "low volume" was a bit of an understatement. This is a recording of a random tape with the output volume of the deck set to max.
List...
Hey all, New Here, New to working on receivers.
I have a Sherwood R-945 that will not produce sound expect for a tiny bit at Full volume.
It has done this intermittently but now its really broken. In the past i was able to turn it on/off/unplug/replug and get it to start working.
Now it turns...
Hello again. I got some help a while
Back with this 626. Functions working well now except the FM and AM side. I had posted that the AM/FM was not working at all but turns out it’s working. I just wasn’t turning the volume up enough to hear it. Now before anyone thinks I’m an idiot I mean I...
I don't want to debate whether or not this receiver is worth fixing. I know it's a POS. I'm doing it for the challenge.
Does anyone have experience with this receiver or the M61540FP chip? I send in a 1kH 1V signal, and I get a 1kH 600mV signal out of the DSP board. So the receiver does...
Hi all, I need advice on my ATN150Ea dilemma. I'm using the AT150Ea cartridge with this stylus however it has very low output volume in comparison to my ATN120E. With the ATN150Ea, i have to turn up the volume to 12 o'clock in comparison to the ATN120E which is 9 o'clock at listening volume...
Recently I was passed down a 580 that’s been sitting in a closet for I don’t know how long. Cosmetically it looks great, I’m not much of a electronics expert unless you’re talking cars. Anyhow the issue, it powers on lights up and all, however the volume (both channels) is super quiet, with that...
Just tried out my first reel to reel tape deck! I asked a couple questions here on purchasing a deck and had some very helpful feedback so thank you all for that first.
I'm working on a digital transfer project. My current setup has an RCA cable connected to the microphone jack on my computer...
Hello
I recently recapped my Yamaha Ca-810 amplifier. Everything seems to be working very well with the exception of the phono inputs having very low volume. The AUX, tuner, etc. have significantly higher volume levels.
When listening to a record, you must turn the volume knob past the halfway...
I could use a bit of help on this as I work on repairing this CR-220 I have have since about 1980. A year ago, I heard a pop from the right speaker in the middle of the night that woke me up. The unit was turned off when this happened. I noticed on follow up that it would pop occasionally when I...
I have a hoffman chassis pull that’s working fine except for one issue. When I plug my turntable into the phono input I have to crank the volume up all the way to hear any sound and even then it’s very low and no bass. Any idea what could be going on?
It’s a chassis pull from a Hoffman...
Hopefully there are a few techs here that can give me some direction...
I have an Allied 445 receiver that has severely reduced volume (about half) on FM and FM mono only (I got it this way). Volume is normal on AM, aux, and phono. Also, there is no FM stereo light on when on FM stereo selector...
Hi all. Hope I can get some help here again... I retired recently and took up electronics (specifically vintage audio). I'm not a tech, and have minimal knowledge, but decent skills, and a love for vintage audio. So, I got hold of an old Allied model 355 receiver (I guess it's made by Pioneer)...
I bought this vintage Pioneer SA-7100 from a drift store, cleaned it up, changed (swapped out) the filter capacitors, de-oxited the other boards, then connected it through my load lamp - the relay clicked and the light bulb dimmed out. I measured the voltage drops on the rails with my...
I just purchased a used SL-DL5, and everything seems to work fine, except for the audio quality. The audio I'm getting after hooking up the turntable to my stereo is very low volume, and full of static. I know the audio chord I'm using works, and the turntable does have the original ground wire...
Hi Everyone,
I picked up a Pioneer SX-770 in very good condition. Amplifier is working as it should, AM works however the FM section has two problems. Very distorted output and extremely low volume. Occurs on both left and right channels. CD and tape outputs work as they should, strong volume...
I recent aqcuired a Zenith B907 - 1 cabinet and just got a new needle for it and cannot get it to play loud enough. All of the other inputs work great, am, fm, tape deck, and can get so loud, but the record player has to be set to Max to hear it from the speakers. No notible difference when set...
Newbie here. I would appreciate your help. I'm having trouble with low volume on my turntable.
Today I purchased the AT-LP120-USB turntable and I'm new to vinyl. For years now I have used my iPad plugged into my old Onkyo receiver and it plays at very loud and crisp.
I carefully assembled my...
Greetings folks!
Here's the problem: Even though my receiver has Phono ins and outs, my vinyls still sound MUCH lower in volume than the FM radio. If I can play the FM radio at a 2 on the volume dial, I'll have to crank the vinyl to an 8 or higher to get the same volume.
Turntable is well...
I have a couple sa 5200s, each with its own issues. The first one sounds good, audio is balanced, no crackle or hum, BUT audio output volume is about a third that of my other sa 5200. I thought amp circuit transistors, but both channels failing in exactly the same way?? How about power supply...
Well I enjoy my NAD 7240 so much (after diagnosing problems thanks to members here) that I got another one. Unfortunaely this one has much bigger issues.
Symptoms
Very low sound from any input - about 60 db at full volume.
Did some tests.
Used pre-amp on another amp and nothing changed...
I posted this on another forum as well and thought it should be here as well since it doesn't seem to be a documented issue... Hope this helps someone:
I've looked extensively around the internet and it seems that most people with this turntable or others similar blame distortion or sibilance...
