SX-6000 Restaurantion

Got an SX-6000 in good visual shape, but its been a while since it did run. I think it will take ma a while to restore and wanted to open this thread.

I open the receiver....

No sound

• There are two 3A channel fuses on the amp board. One was burned out, exchanged
• I get sound

Low volume

• The volume is low (like there is no full amplification). I play with the switches and suddenly it gets to normal and back to low.
• I assume a cleaning will deal with it, will keep you posted

All bulbs out

• They were in order other then one on the meter. While exchanging it I brike a part (see below) and while trying to fix it all lamps went dark.
• The music is still here, but no lights. Looking at the cicruit, all light seem powered by power supply W-16-026 towards ground. Is there a common fuse? How come ALL of them when dark? I did not find any other fuses...

Meter bulb/lamp holder repair

• The connection between is broken, I can try to repair but a new lamp/bulb holder would be better. The piece I am looking for is the metal part where the bulb is screwed in and the two "red" isolator parts. I think this must come as one part all together for each bulb:

Which 3 ampere fuse failed?

Here's an update:

No sound

• It was the 3A fuse on the amp card (there are two 3A fuses)

Low volume

• After cleaning and deoxit, all is okay. I think it was the selector switch (AM, FM, AUX, ..) that had dirt in between the contacts.

All bulbs out

• There is a separate fuse on the under side of the receiver, a fuse that is covered with a plastic tube. This is the lights fuse. If the lights short, that fuse gets blown.
• I changed the fuse and the lights are back on.

Meter bulb/lamp holder repair

• I did a repair of the one broken lamp holder. 1) soldered small cable directly to the holder center, then, with "2 component glue", glue the holder directly to the metal bracket, solder the the cable together with the two cables coming from the receiver. Works perfect. But will change that once the replacement holders arrive.

Light replacements

• Its a PITA. Make sure you have enough sleep before starting? Take two hours.
• Dial: Prie open the left hand (looking form front) side metal cover of the dial metal cover case. You can then pull out the dial pointer lamp out of the black case. I did not know and had to find my way in, prying open the hole thing. Its back together nicely though, lucky.
  
  
  
  
  
  
  
  
  
• Indicators: Remove old indicator from front, KEEP the plastic sleeve separating the nudie leads of the new lamps, add it to the new laps, solder leads and shrink tube (only on one side, otherwise it does not get back into the hole). Once in the hole, isolate second lead with shrink, solder leads to connection brackets.
  
  
  
  
  
  

Caps

• EASY
• Changed C3, C4, C5 with Panasonics from Mouser
  
  
  
  
• I always check before ordering about the diameter. They fit perfectly into the old brackets.
  
  
  
  
• No plans to replace other caps.

Adjustment

• Did measure B2 point on amp board, 81 V
• Adjusted V1/V2 to 1/2 B2, 40,5 V (measure the voltage directeley on the transitor collectors).
• Adjusted V3/V4 to 15 mV (there are two leads coming from the resistor glued to the big caps n the amp board, you can measure the voltage there)
• Adjustements possible without problem
• Did not do any FM adjustements

Cover

• Treated slightly with oil, BUT: IS this plastic? I thought it was REAL wood but I think its just plastic foil?

Result

All is working perfectly fine, like new I bought it "broken" for 100 €, saw it sell for 300 €. But is not about the price, the thing sounds perfect on Kef Cadenzas. Smoooth bass.

Lucky it worked. Usually when an amp fuse goes, its a bit of repair to the amp needed.

I've found those to have excellent tuners and the cap coupled amp produces a nice mellow sound.

Thanks, I hope all will be fine. It was very dirty inside there, maybe some heat that cause the fuse or somebody made a short with the speakers... we'll see in the days to come. Indeed, super mellow sound. I will need to repairs as well a 2235B Marantz, hope to report the comparison on video in the next weeks. Will use both sets with the Cadenzas, there as well, new caps have been ordered.
