Hi All,
I am in need of a complete replacement lamp kit for an SX 650.
I have read a thread here mentioning "dgwojo" as a great source for this kit.
I have looked for him in the member list but do not see a contact.
Can someone here help me get in touch with him?
Thank you
Dean.

no "kits" exist, he may be familiar enough with the 650 or have documentation as to which lamps are needed, but you should really figure out yourself which lamps it has and where they are located ahead of ordering. :D

do him the favor, make it easy to fulfill your request.

edit - here's a quickie -
3 x wedge lamps 8v 300mA (main illumination)
1 x 4mm 8v 50mA (power)
1x 4mm 8v 50mA (stereo)

Thanks Markthefixer-

Got the lights from Dave as you suggested (highly recommended-fast and reliable) and installed today. They look great. One question- when I turn on the receiver it takes approx 20 seconds for the lights to reach their full brightness. They flicker slightly while they are "warming up" and then they become twice as bright. Could this be a faulty Cap? Or is it something more complicated?
If a Cap- do you know which one it might be-
Thanks a lot for your help-almost ready to hand this nice little unit over to one of my kids-

Regards,
Dean.

Typical burned power switch contacts. They have to be mechanically cleaned by abrasives (emery cloth).

It is a pita to get to the switch, sorry....

There are several threads about the process.

Sx-550 is very similar, 750 is close but has a different, riveted switch.

I didnt have much luck finding a thread regarding the cleaning of burned power switch contacts- would you have a link by any chance?

Thank You

There are no caps in the lamp circuit. In fact they simply connect the bulbs directly to a secondary winding of the transformer through a fuse. So they run on AC instead of DC. First I would want to make sure the 120 Volts AC (after the switch) is stable. You can use an AC volt meter, or simply plug a lamp or light bulb in the "switched" outlet on the back of the receiver. If you get the same effect, there's likely an issue with the power switch.

If that looks OK then the AC voltage going to the lamps might be fluctuating.
That can be anything from a defective bulb, bad connection, to the transformer winding going bad. A defective bulb could cause problems like this.

Markthefixer-
I found some links and took the power switch apart.
Unfortunately I have the Noble switch (the circular one) and not the match box type.
The contacts in this switch consist of one round button contact and one post with a recessed circle where the button rests. The button should be easy to clean but the recessed circle is a diferent story.
Have you cleaned a switch like this yourself?
I cant figure out how to create a flat surface within this tiny little hole.
so far I was able to remove the carbon-but the surface is not flat, or smooth and is pitted- any suggestions would be appreciated??

Dean.

Thank you very much. Did you create a flat surface on the new side of the post (with a file or sandpaper) for the contact on the pivoting arm to rest against? Or just clean up the post at point of contact?
Thank you
Great links
Dean
