SX-980 Restoration

So far so good. My Dial String seems to be working ok, I was really afraid of messing that up. The bottom two boards (tone & flat amp) are just sitting in place waiting for a few more parts.
 
Nice description of your progress with your project, including the photos along the way. I've been using cheap little kitchen zip-lock bags to store all the small screws and other misc parts during disassembly, and I include a post-it note inside each bag to identify where the screws/parts came from. I also store all replaced components either that same way, or taped to sheets of paper with component ID and any previous measurements taken - just in case I need to go back for further comparison or testing.
 
So my bass pot came it today and I put it back on the tone board and did some testing. The unit sounds good but I noticed both power meters are working, however, they are real slow responding and don't seem to be very sensitive. Any one have any ideas on what would affect that?

You wouldn't BELIEVE my PM traffic. I can't shut it off ( the clutch work and other stuff), so I have to control it.

There are 2 2sa726 transistors on the Flat Amp board everyone seems to say should be replaced as they tend to be problematic and I ordered Ksa992fata replacements from Mouser (part # 512-KSA992FATA). I hope that was good as I was not completely sure what the FATA suffix meant. I think the hfe is in the 400 range on the original transistors (I currently have no way to test that) and I think (best I could tell) the FATA versions are in the 300 to 470 or 300 to 600 range from the datasheet depending on whether you use the F or FA part of the suffix. I hope I ordered the correct ones. Are you familiar with these replacements? And are they OK?

This is precisely the type of question to ask in the forum...

Fa is gain code, see the datasheet (f 300 - 600, fa 300-470) I would go with F, on the chance of getting the 470 - 600 gain units.
ta is packaging, ammo tape (folded), tape reel, special cuts of tape leads, and just plain bulk. It's on the datasheet when you glean it carefully.

KSA992 Familiar - yes, I first specified them here about 16 years ago. I've been in here over 17 years.... and when I specified them, I had worked with them successfully for quite a while.
