Tandberg 9200xd

Hey there!
Recently I acquired a Tandberg 9200xd in pretty decent cosmetically shape.
This machine haven't been in use for long time and therefore some common problems occurred when I turned it on.
First, the pinch roller didn't engage the idler and I fixed it by cleaning and re-lubing the parts associated with the movements of the pinch roller assembly. Now the unit works correct - mechanically.
I have an issue with the audio and VU meters.
When I start to play a tape I get the output signal equally for both channels, then after few minutes the left channel becomes faint and the output level descent almost completely. I'm using the headphones output jack, as I haven't checked it through the rear line output RCA jacks. I tried to move the output faders back and forth to see if it's a contact-pot problem, it seems it isn't the case.
The second issue that I have with the unit is the VU meters.
I get only the Left channel to show any signal, but only on Record mode. When I play a tape the Left channel meter doesn't move, and the Right channel meter doesn't move both on Record and play.
The unit does function OK, when it comes to recording - it records and erase on both channels, so I hope this isn't any severe problem.
Would like to hear your thoughts :)

Start by cleaning VERY thoroughly all switches, particularly the ones that control signal routing or rec vs. play. After that, find and deoxidize every multi-harness connector plug/jack assembly that carries audio signal (should plan on doing them all though). These machines used silver plated pins for those connectors to plug onto, and they tarnish badly.

BTW headphone jack contacts are also likely in need of deoxidizing as are the RCA panel jacks.
