Tandberg TR 2060: powers on, no sound

hello everyone,

I recently acquired an old Tandberg tr 2060. Cosmetically, it’s in great shape (both inside and outside) and it powers on, but theres no sound output. I’ve tried all the inputs and it’s the same for all of them. There’s no power coming out any of the speaker channels.

Any ideas on where I should start looking for possible issues/problematic components? I’m relatively new to receiver repair, and I’ve never worked on any Tandberg products. Ive found decent schematics, but doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of information about them on here.

Any leads greatly appreciated.

After you turn it on, is there a relay click a couple seconds later? If not it sounds like its in protection for some reason.

I worked on a 2060 once. Construction isn't bad and access is pretty decent inside so its not a horrible mess to work on. Always a plus IMO.

A 2060 is of the age that all of the electrolytic capacitors are suspect and should be replaced. Your output transistors and their related driver transistors may have failed and can be tested with a multimeter on the semiconductor setting after being disconnected. The various internal interconnections may be oxidized as well and should be cleaned.

No power anywhere but "turns on" is normally one of the easier fixes. Check for 120ac, be careful, from the on off switch to the on off relay if it has one, to the main transformer. Im assuming you checked any internal fuses. Then check transformer outputs to the rectifier circuitry. This is where the problem usually is found. If the rectifier outputs are ok and you have rail voltage you're problems are probably beyond a simple fix, although Im unfamiliar with the Tanberg. Im also assuming all switches and pots have been deoxed.
