Tandberg TR2055 - Needs Replacement Relay

My poor old TR2055 is in need of a replacement relay I think. I believe this is an early series unit. I noticed the other day that the right channel was cutting out after the unit heated up. I at first thought about dirty contacts so I cleaned the speaker selection switch as well as volume and balance but that wasn't the problem. I then had the idea of knocking the relay gently with a screwdriver handle. That indeed was the problem.

I then de-soldered the relay (pin / not spade type) and took it apart to clean the contacts using the contact cleaner soaked index card method (CRC not DeOxit). The contacts looked immaculate but I did it anyway. Well it was worse when I soldered it back in. Neither channel came on. I then got it out again and decided I had bent the contacts further away from the armature even though I cleaned the contacts gently. I bent them a bit closer to the armature contacts, soldered the relay back in an voila, both channels are working. Now the next day the right channel is cutting out again after the unit heats up. I know this unit had a hard, heat-rich previous life gauging by the condition of the internal components.

Then I got into finding a replacement and looking at all the threads on AK. The original relay is a V23154 series which are somewhat available from TE connectivity but most are not stocked by anyone. It has three pins on the front row of the relay (opposite the coil), a middle pin in the second row and two pins at the corners on the back.

I believe it is a DPDT (with two contacts per channel), 24 VDC, 1000 Ohm coil resistance. I can't find anything yet in stock that matches these requirements from TE that is like to have the same pinout arrangement.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a replacement? I may have to continue trying to nudge my current one to keep it working as for Tandbergs it seems like quite an exercise to find the right replacement relay.

Draw a picture of the bottom of the relay, showing the pin layout and connections, and center to center dimensions of the pins. Then go to www.digikey.com and search for a power relay, 24VDC coil voltage, 5A contact rating minimum, and look for one with the same pinout and dimensions. You may have to just buy an Omron relay and hand wire it in. I know there is not a lot of room in that receiver.

Good idea. I will have to map out the pins on my relay. Maybe I can use that existing relay as a base and wire a new relay to it. I have never seen Omron and Tandberg mentioned in the same context so I think they are configured quite differently although there may be one out there with the same specs.
 
Search term "V23154" and choose north America in the country section. Regarding fitting, you have to check the pics and regarding spec, you have to ask the seller.
 
Ok, thanks for the suggestion of searching eBay. I found a TE Connectivity/Siemens V23154-D0722-F104 that has the right specs, DPDT, 32 VDC, etc.
 
The original is 24VDC. 32VDC may not work.

My reasoning for picking the 32VDC version is that first it is NOS, the only 24VDC I relay could find was used. To me the critical metric was rated coil power or current. Both of them were close to each other given the differences in coil resistance between them. The minimum voltage to operate the 32VDC relay was 22.6VDC. The Tandberg has 28VDC going into the relay. From the spec sheet either one should work. On the original relay the coil resistance is 1000 ohm, on the newer 24 VDC unit available it's 890 Ohms. The 32VDC version resistance is 1700 ohm. So, am I missing something? Could the higher coil resistance on the 32VDC version cause a problem? They both would seem to fall within the parameters of what should work in the Tandberg based on the spec sheet.

You did your homework, I see. It should work.
 
I think this one with 6VDC/52 Ohms of coil resistance would be underrated compared to the relay I'm replacing with 24VDC and 1000 Ohm coil being fed with 28 VDC from the protection circuit.

Does this one have through hole pins or spades? I ordered a couple, one used and one NOS. Hopefully I'll have some success with them. I'll report back.
