picked up a pair or tannoy speakers from goodwill today and need some help with telling what kind they are. 8" driver and tweeter. Ported in the front. Through the port hole its stamped October 7 1986 on the inside. Don't know anything about these but they sound pretty good! Any help would be great. Thank you added pic its upside down sorry hope this helps

Are you saying it has one dual concentric drive or an 8" driver plus separate tweeter?
A picture is worth a 1000 words.

A lot of Tannoy speakers from that era have the name printed on the baffle. Can you post pics?
These for example were made from 1987 to 1989

Looks like Tannoy C series, C-6 C-8 or C-10, I'm guessing c-8 maybe. It should say on the back or somewhere on it.

Looks like a C-8, same as in my avatar on the right. There were 3 series of the C model and there were also C-6, C-88 towers. Made in Canada by API under license. You can get new foams from Simply Speakers if needed.
My C-8's sound pretty good, especially for what you can buy them for. Mine are a few years newer so have some cosmetic differences like a blue Tannoy badge, no logo on the tweeter and a different plastic surround for the woofer.

Thanks. Very helpful info. Paid $4 for the pair at the local goodwill. Set them up when I got home and they really sound great. First pair of them I've ever owned

Excellent price. I have seen them listed for 100, but usually less. Lots of sound for small $. I like them better than my PSB Images. If you ever see some Tannoy dual concentrics buy them, you will like.

Price is Good.
But those are Tannoy in name only. Cheap mass market speakers leaning on the Tannoy name.
That said, they should sound as good if not better than similar competitive products from that time frame.

I prefer "inexpensive" vs. "cheap". I believe Tannoy was trying to gain more presence in North America by lowering costs by avoiding shipping and tariffs and using local lower cost cabinets. This like the Mercury line made in eastern Europe.
Tannoy has never really hit the mainstream in NA.
I would buy them all for $4 to use in the garage, shop, cottage, bedroom, give to friends, etc.
Enjoy.

I'll probably use them in my sons room. He could use some speakers for his receiver I gave him. Have had some good luck at this goodwill. $4 for the tannoy's and I paid $20 for a pair of infinity rs625's awhile back

If they use the same caps in the crossover as their Venus series- they should actually be just.
