Tape Deck Question

any record you have was probably recorded on tape first. before everything went digital, that's the way it was. the beatles and producer george martin recorded sgt. pepper's lonely hearts club band on a 4-track recorder. pink floyd also used 4-trak, 'cause that's all there was back then. when you say "deck," do you mean reel-to-reel, or cassette? i use akai (see models in my sig), and that combo sounds great -- especially with a good graphic equalizer. so, i recommend akai, whether reel or cassette.
 
The other thing is, whether you actually need it. I maintain tape decks because I have a couple hundred home recorded tapes, many of which I don't have in any other format. I don't really want to convert all that to digital, and in fact I don't have the equipment yet. So I keep a Nakamichi in the main system, but mostly I use them in the car (long commute), where I have a dual format CD/tape unit. Unless you have a reason to have the format, it's going to be "just for fun". Not that there's anything wrong with that. :D
