Teac PD-H600-Reference CD Deck-WOW!

A big money-saving workaround for the excellent Teac player is this rig:
http://tascam.com/product/cd-200/overview/

Same transport, but in a pro audio chassis (superbly built and incredibly solid). US$250 most everywhere.
I mainly run mine using coax digital out to my external DAC, but the internal DAC chip in the unit also sounds excellent. It is quite possibly the same Burr-Brown chip as in the Teac kin, but I can't yet confirm.
Frugal Tip o' The Day!

These are not the same players nor are they even similar other than the fact that TEAC has something to do with them.

Thnx Art....I snooped around the net last night $699 looks like the cost of the Teac...stings a little...anyone have secret source for them at a better buy???

Peace, B.

Given that the original MSRP is $1000 that doesn't seem too bad. Your best bet probably is to look for a demo unit from a dealer/online outlet.

Try Spearit and see if they will go lower. Don't buy the demo...they had at least one left last I talked to them. Just let them know that you are aware that $699 is the going price everywhere and that it was $599 online not long ago. Trust me it's worth the $699.

Sorry, John I didn't see your post. I know that the Spearit Demo was used pretty hard so it would be better to just skip it and spend the extra $100.

If I recall correctly, The Absolute Sound loved this unit at $1,000. Can't help thinking it's quite a bargain at $700 or so.

$579.92 open box. I still recommend spending the extra $120 and buying new because you never really know what they mean by open box.

$699 is alot of money, no doubt. But I have to say this is one of the best audio bargins (except my ESS AMT3's) I have ever run across-even at this price.
They way it disappears and let's the music come through is where the bargin lies.
The construction of course is excellent-a player you will have for years to come.
Looking at the Tascam-not even close to the PD-H600-they are different, power supplys, transport etc.
If you are unsure- but it from OneCall-you have a 15 days to return it.
It need a few hours of breakin- but I can guantee you won't be disappointed!
Think of it as getting a Esoteric deck for $699

Put my TEAC into the living room system with the Marantz SR5005 AVR and Wharfedale Diamond 9.1's in front and playing is Pure Direct mode on the AVR and display off on the TEAC. The sound is the best I've heard from the little Diamonds...good argument for "source first".

Let 'her Warm Up!

Another thing I noticed with this player-is that it sounds better if it has warmed up a bit. In fact I have left it on a few times overnight, for example, and there is a definite improvement in the sound.
Strange, and I wonder if this is unique to my player-or common with this player.

Absolutely and in fact that could be said of any CD player that I've owned. I leave all of them on 24/7. We put the TEAC into my wife's system last night and turned it on. Her setup is doing a lovely job as I type playing The Mystic Trumpeter by Converse.
