Teac TN-300 for $229 New - such a deal?

So I've been reading the "Teac TN-300 Just Say No?" thread for a few hours only to find that it has been closed extremely recently, so I never got to post this there.

I've needed a second TT for some time now. I already have a Technics SL-Q202 Quartz DD that runs beautifully, but I've wanted a nice showpiece TT for the living room so I can move the Technics workhorse to the garage with the pool table and myriad other man cave accoutrements.

I just bought a Teac 300 for $229.00 new and shipped (in turquoise no less - swoon). I've been eyeing it for a while at the $400 price point, but when I saw the price drop on the model I like and in a color I both love and have never seen before, I pulled the trigger immediately.

My question is this: having read the majority of the now-closed Teac 300 Just Say No thread, would any of the naysayers change their tune given a $229.00 price point? I was also looking hard at the U-Turn Orbit, but after that happened I didn't even think twice.

I'd jump on it at that price point. Even at 400 its a fine looking table and i'm sure it'll serve you well. One thing with that thread was a lot of naysayers said nay by never having heard or even seen one. Lots of people go by specs alone. Just let YOUR ears tell you whether its good or not and just enjoy the music. Peace man!

Ignore the naysayers! If you enjoy it, enjoy it. It will never win everyone over because it doesn't have the name "Technics" on it or "made in Japan" written on the back.

One thing is certain: at $230 it's cheaper than any other new turntable that has the same features (cueing lever, removable headshell, and built in preamp).

The prior TN-300 thread was shut down with the final nail in the coffin by the OP. Teeg we've heard more than enough about the TN-300 and at this point most AKers are not interested in hearing any more even if it's now selling for $2.29 Best advice to the AK mods is close this thread down since the OP more than likely intends to create another fight by calling out the "naysayers".

It is said that "A word to the wise is sufficient". This is now our third thread on this table, in a short time. The first two got closed, and this one originates with a brand new member, his first post.
Gentlemen, ladies, if anyone provides cause for closing this thread, after not learning the lessons of the other two, expect banishment, rather than a temporary suspension.

My best advice is to look for the lengthy thread by a fellow AKer, who is an owner of this very turntable. Search for member Tharbamar and then look for his thread on the TN-300. A wealth of information is contained therein.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! And much appreciation to the folks who bothered to give it a listen and measure w/f and whatnot.

No, not trying to start a fight (hard to believe with all the trolls on this forum, I know). I was just annoyed the other thread got so off-topic and shut down as a result before anyone seemed to notice the sale price. They do still retail at $400, btw.

Deck arrives today - I will hook it up and report back here. At $230 shipped if it sounds like junk (which apparently it doesn't), I can always mount it as wall art. Even the doubters admit it's darn pretty. Very excited to give it a spin! I'm not expecting it to outperform my vintage DD Technics, but if it's even close I'll consider it a win.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the welcome!

Hope you enjoy your new table! Once you get it all situated, one thing to consider is that most of these tables can use a significantly better cartridge than they come with. So if you are happy with its functionality, consider a cartridge upgrade before you decide what its performance ceiling is.

Previous owners seem to think its a serviceable table worth the cost of what it sells for. The sale price should bump that quotient up a bit.

Oh and welcome to AK. We really are a friendly bunch on the turntable board, its just people get passionate about their likes and dislikes. And a few of our resident curmudgeons are extra crusty.

I got one a month or so ago, love it, and you will too especially at that price, mine was £300, so enjoy. I read the previous thread on it and it didn't put me off, if anything the opposite.

I see it's only the Turquoise available from a single ebay seller that's $229. I don't see that colour on the Teac site. Wonder if this is like a discontinued item clearance discount price?

Anyways, at $229 that's a bargain. Let's see the photos and your listening impression! Congrats!

I think you need to get one!

Dammit! That table in turquoise even matches my living room furniture. Got to figure out how not to buy it. I think that's a great deal. It totally matches my listening chair. This is killing me. Why did I look at it?

Hey everyone liked it when bob06 painted the arm board of his TD 124 turquoise. Just a saying............

I think it looks nice, I wouldn't have any problem with that color.
