Teac TN-300 for $229 New - such a deal?

The prior TN-300 thread was shut down with the final nail in the coffin by the OP. Teeg we've heard more than enough about the TN-300 and at this point most AKers are not interested in hearing any more even if it's now selling for $2.29 Best advice to the AK mods is close this thread down since the OP more than likely intends to create another fight by calling out the "naysayers".

Totally completely false.

Yes, I complained about the AK moderator closing the "just say no" thread due to other bickering going on it, and then subsequently was banned from AK for talking about moderators. majick47 aims to spin things another way. I wasn't even in the fight at the end of the closed thread, but majick certainly was with his usual nonsense. And a post by him now saying this deck is not worth $2.29, one would think could possibly merit a ban as well, but sadly no it seems, as he continues to post items of no value.

I have since learned not to complain about moderators, and for that point I apologize to AK.

The Teac is a nice turntable, for $230 it's a steal. Enjoy. Hope I don't get banned for saying that around here.

White ones are now available at a discount here in Europe. You wonder how big the profit margin was given discounts in the order of 100€, and why the prices are dropping. Over production?

Since this current Teak TN-300 thread revolves around the price why not move the thread to the D&S section where it probably belongs.

My vote is that regardless of the opening headline of the thread, this conversation has considered well more than price and whether or not the table is a deal. It has focused on color, speculation of the market, ability of the table compared to other products out there, etc. In other words, a normal AK thread where price happens to be a component. This happens all the time. The threads that get banished to dollars and sense don't always belong there and there are plenty of AKers who in one thread will politely reprimand another AKer for mentioning price and the same AKer who politely reprimanded will, in another thread also not in D&S, turn around and introduce pricing into a discussion that had not discussed prices before. I find the practice of moving threads to D&S to be very inconsistent as well as talk in non D&S threads of pricing, whether or not something is a deal, or simply speculation of what one can, should, or would pay for an item. Everyone is confused it seems by the rules or practice. Not sure which.

While, perhaps it may have been a good idea to move this thread to D&S when it was first posted because the title explicitly mentions price, the conversation has taken many other turns since then and if we are voting, I think it should just stay here.

You do realize that Majick got his pee pee slapped earlier in this thread, and is just trying to find a more subtle way to derail this thread also. I strongly suspect post #10 is directed at his type of behavior in previous Teac and Hanapin threads. His disdain for an inexpensive table made in East Asia is unwavering,

The opening headline in the thread clearly deals with the price of the turntable and the following conversation is almost completely based on the price. We now learn that another color is selling for a much lower price in Europe and it's possible many of the other colors price could be deeply discounted soon. Why does it seem unreasonable that the thread is more appropriate for D&S, my like or dislike of inexpensive turntables made in East Asia is not a factor in the recommendation. Other members have made known their not so subtle disdain for turntables made in Japan and they havn't been accused of attempting to derail threads.

ANYHOO,

The deck arrived on Monday and it is currently all hooked up and sitting pretty on my stereo cabinet. I spent Monday evening putting it through its paces and spinning a veriety of 33's and 45's. So far everything is perfectly solid. I did have a slight issue with static buildup, but that was not the fault of the TT.

I went into this a little leery of the onboard pre-amp, but now I'm not. Sounds great.

I'm pretty impressed, too, with the output of that little AT95SE. The reviews I've read were right - it tracks incredibly well at that price point, and the range I'm hearing is more than adequate for my purposes (and plebian ear holes). I'll probably stick with it for the time being which means I still have to find a new cart for my SL-Q202 (suggestions? or is that another thread?).

I'll post some pictures soon...

Nice!! And yes, pictures please :)

And whats your budget for a new cart for the Technics?

Pics please? :)

I have pics forthcoming!

And whats your budget for a new cart for the Technics?

I haven't really set a budget for a new cart just yet as my wife and I are having our first child in March, and that has taken up most of my time (and money). Frankly if I can make that $35 AT95E currently on Amazon work, I'll probably go with that. The system my Technics is on is a lowly Sony shelf system with a vintage Realistic pre-amp - nothing special.

Teej, what's the rest of your system?

The rest of my main system is a hand-me-down Sony receiver and speakers the model numbers of which I've never bothered to check. I was getting ready to start shopping for an upgrade receiver/speaker combo when the Teac popped up at that super low price point, forcing me to put the cart in front of the horse. So what I have now is a bit like filet mignon served on a styrofoam plate. If I can sneak a decent pair of speakers past my wife among the flood of baby stuff coming into my house right now I'll call it a win.

And here I thought the proper place for the cart was at the front of the tonearm ... :D

I ended up ordering one of the turquoise models for $229. My SL-D2 has been having issues of late (right channel barely audible) and I was ready for something that was fairly cheap and new. At this price point I'm not sure I can go wrong. Mine is scheduled for delivery tomorrow.

You're going to be pleased.

It kind of matches the mat my wife picked out for my Springfield Jazz Fest poster...
