Technician recommendation in Oakland / Bay Area

If you have a need for more serious repairs - then Sheldon at Champlifier in Alameda is as good as it gets. Not cheap.

Hi AKers,

I recently picked up a gorgeous Yamaha CR-820 that had only been driven to church on Sunday. *snip*

Update: Operation relamp was a success! Better yet, I earned my junior technician badge doing it myself. Many thanks to all for the help and advice, and @dgwojo for the bulbs.

It would be nice if the whole tuner lit up. Maybe I'll get crafty with a piece of side-glow fiber optic sometime. What do you think, would that violate the sanctity of the original design? I'll keep it original for now, and bask in the modest glow.

Thanks again!

You are so much richer (and I don't mean financially) for having done the deed yourself! Well done. Now if you have troubles with the unit later, maybe you can even have a go at repairing it yourself with some help from AK members.

That unit really came out great, hopefully the free heat shrink and solder made for an easy professional looking repair, Dave.

Thanks, Dave! Your kit made it easy, and kept it looking as nice on the inside as it does on the outside:)

Hi AKers,

I recently picked up a gorgeous Yamaha CR-820 that had only been driven to church on Sunday. The only flaw I have noticed is that the lamps are all out. I asked a stereo shop in Berkeley who estimated $150-200 to replace the bulbs. I'm new to this, but that seems high.

I'm looking for recommendations for independent technicians or shops in the Bay Area, preferably in Oakland / Berkeley / East Bay who do good work for reasonable prices. Could you please share your favorite? I promise not to take up all their time :)

Has anyone had any experience with the technician at Strictly Vinyl in Albany?

Thanks a lot, Erik

I am also looking for a recommendation.

Same suspects as noted above.

If you post a bit of info, the smart folks might suggest a better path.

Also, think about starting a new thread. Then you get notified when there is a response.
