Technics Concise Reference Archive – C01, C03, C04 and related equipment

That Technics SA800 is a serious piece of equipment. That would be the kind of component that if I owned in my younger years I’d love to get back, nostalgia can be quite the powerful force.

I do miss it sometimes especially the manual tuner even though I don't listen to the radio over the air. The LED power meters are another thing I miss.
Truth be told, at that point in my life my main concerns were "cool" and "loud' and the SA800 certainly fit the bill.
After the SA800, I went with separate components and never looked back.

I personally have C01 (Tuner/Amp/Preamp), C03 (Tuner/Amp), C04 (Tuner/Amp), and M02 and M04, along with SB-F2 and a couple SB-F1MK2 speakers. I'm still missing a couple decks (M07, M03[rather unknown]), the C02 devices (SA-C02), a C01 Amp with external SH-C01, the SH-C02, the original F1s and actively looking for F3s.

My 2 cents, I uploaded to eletrotanya the SE-C01 Service manual for the version without the external SH-C01 just in case you want to upload it to your page.

Thank you, I’m glad you liked the website. I have been adding quite a bit lately as I purchased a bunch of literature in the form of brochures, catalogues, flyers and advertisements from Japan. So I’m slowly scanning those and adding them to the website.

Uhh nice! the SH-C02 would be a lovely addition. I'm still missing the SH-C01 though haha with a matching SE-C01.

Sure! I use most of the devices, or at least I try to haha, in my office I have a SU-C04 hooked up to a pair of Polk bookshelfs, a SU-C03 to a pair of SB-F2, and the SE/SU-C01 to another couple SB-F2, and a ST-C01 for when I want to hear to some radio. Here's a pic:

Then I do have a SU-C04, 2 ST-C03, ST-C01, SE-C01 and RS-M04 in "storage".
I have a SL-DL5 also in storage but not micro/concise.

My dad has a SU-C04/ST-C04/RS-M04 combo along with a couple SB-F1 MK2 (no pic here though, but I do have a picture with all 3 SU-C04 after being recapped and some noisy transistors changed and a picture of the combo he got when I finished restoring it)

Top to bottom it's SL-DL5, SH-8025, ST-S3, SU-V9, ST-Z1 (not really using it), SU-V5.
Speakers are SB-K915 but honestly I use the Klipsch ones more.

I’ve never seen or heard of those boomboxes before. Look at that EQ! I love the look of them. Have you had yours since new?

I got mine through a "packaged deal" from an old-timer a few years ago. He had a much newer boombox that he thought was worth 4x the Technics but it should have been the other way around. I got the Technics and a Hitachi TRK-8800 for next to nothing and left the newer box.

Technics kind of had three designs going coming out of the 70's, traditional, Concise and the black fascia with the bottom ledge (that lasted into the 90's). The huge boomboxes followed the Concise Designs, here's the SA-C06 from 1980 which retailed for 97,000 Yen!

I've got a handful of downloaded Technics Brochures, the Concise Line had catalog showings throughout the years but I'm assuming your focusing on the first generation?

I do really dig the Concise range boomboxes, like yours. I believe I have a physical copy of the brochure thst has the photo you provided. That’s a neat story how you got lucky from the old fellow, you always walk away feeling like you won the lotto when that happens. I do only cover the first generation being the C01, C03 and C04 on the website. Thanks for posting, I really do enjoy hearing from other people who own Concise gear.

Here's an ad from 1981 with the CO-7 Boombox. Pricing is Singapore Dollars, they're something like 30% off with USD. The 2nd ad is from 1982 and has the CO-6 Boombox. Unfortunately I don't think the CO-9 made the cut plus it's a lof different looking.

The CO-5 is very rare, even photos of it are rare. They're claiming 65 watts/channel in real boombox watts and, I kind of believe them, since this had one of the baddest accessories available for a boombox, and you'll never believe what it is......

But they didn't give this one the cool SB Speakers either so it doesn't match the Concise as well.

Holy moly! I’ve seen all of those Singapore scans but I’ve never even heard of that subwoofer, that’s incredible. You would’ve been the envy of your friends but an enemy to your neighbours in ‘82 with that thing.

The C05 is quite an attractive looking piece of equipment, especially with that dapper metal reel cassette in it. My RS-M03 always has one in it when I’m not using it.
