Definitely not for me. THe SX-1980 was enough.

Lately I have seen these going for crazy money

[krowmagnum]

I would put an SX-1980 up against that Panasonic receiver any day.
People on eBay are asking crazy money. One kinda beat up Technics SA-1000 for $2800 that didn't sell and a nicer on on eBay now at $5,000.00.

He needs to upgrade his sales pitch & show better pics.

Really silly. Fetching huge bucks because Technics markerting folks decided they needed the most powerful receiver. No, I never gave heard one, or even seen one in the flesh. But when I think of the incredible gear I could get for that money....

Some collectors will pay that. I guess money is not an issue for them .

I know it's the most powerful of that era of vintage receivers, but it may very well be the ugliest, too.

Never heard one either, so can't comment on the sound.

I loved the look of those Technics from that era. Good quality sound. But my SA-700 is plenty big enough. Back in the day, I had an amp and tuner that looked the same which did me good service. Loved those silver faces.
