Was gifted a Technics SH-8010 EQ by a coworker. Plugged it in on the bench and had power, and the switches on the front seem to work fine, everything lit up like it should. Tested on the bench from my PC with a 3.5mm to RCA into a pioneer Sx-780 I've been working on and had a good output, but some scratches coming through on adjustment. So I've pulled the whole thing apart, gave it a Deoxit bath, and plugged it all back in and had good output again with no scratching.
Well, I plugged it into my DAC to go out to my Realistic STA-111 in my living room and now have no power. Cracked it open pretty quickly and I could feel the transformer was pretty hot. I've searched for fuses and have none on it although from what I've seen of other models they didn't have any on these older units. I've searched all over the board for any burns or cracks, loose solder joints, nothing. I don't have my meter on hand atm but of course I'll get it as soon as I can. I'd imagine I just have a burnt out transformer but I've no clue why it lasted through all the testing and decided to **** the bed once in the setup. Maybe too high of an output from my DAC? Maybe just coincidence?
Anybody seen any issues like this with these units or any other simple things to look at? The boards themselves seem pretty straightforward with all discreet components and labels straight on it.
