Technics sl 1200 mk2 pitch at 3.3 & -3.3

Hello,

So recently i bought a technics sl 1200 mk2, happy me!

There are some pitch 'issues'. At 0%, the strobe dots are dead steady, no problem there. At 6, 3.3 & -3.3%, the dots were not steady. I followed a pitch calibration video on youtube, and was able to get the dots steady at 6%.

At 3.3 & -3.3% the dots are not still though.

Now, this is not a huge problem for me, as I am not a dj and don't use the pitch anyway. But I was wondering if there is anything that I can do to get the pitch to be correct at 3.3 & -3.3% as well.

Btw, I don't seem to have the '2 zero % points' issue that some have.

As long as the speed is CONSTANT (wow and flutter are absolute disqualifiers), I would ignore it. For applications where exact speed calibrations are required, you'd use other means of more precisely measuring the speed, anyway.
 
I was always under the impression the scale on the table wasn't that accurate. If it is tracking at zero properly for both 33-1/3 and 45 RPM then all is good. It isn't like it clicks in at +/- 3%. If there is reason to get there, adjust the slider until it is there and ignore the scale on the slider.
 
Good call. I also have a 2007 model of the SL1200MKII and my only concern is that the "0" setting on the pitch adjustment slider results in standing dots on the 2nd from the bottom. Same with the 45 rpm speed. Big dots standing still = smile.

Spin away my friend and discover how wonderful a "DISCO" turntable can sound. Probably the best table under many grand for anyone that can open their eyes to the reality of a poor DD table that can outperform almost all others (within reason).

I have an old mk2, one of the early ones from the late 70's. I also have 4 newer ones. The early one has a different circuit board for the pitch control than the newer ones. The pitch control itself are identical, just the circuit board that the pitch control mounts on are different. On my older 1200, it behaves like you are describing. At zero it is dead steady, at plus or Minus 2 and 4% the next set of dots are steady. On my newer 1200's, the dots are steady at plus or minus 3 and 6%. I talked to a technics repair person and he said that there is probably no way to fix it. The pitch control is working correctly if it holds steady at zero and speeds up and slows down smoothly. I got a feeling it has something to do with the quartz lock mod. You might want to check and see if your table has the quartz control mod done to it. Take the platter off and the black cover underneath the platter off. Look at the wires coming from the pitch control. If the orange wire is cut and taped off, it has the quartz lock mod done to it.
