Anyone have any suggestions for a cartridge and stylus for a Technics SL 1500? I listen to a lot of jazz from 1955-1965 time period and newer reissues.

Thanks

Welcome to the AK turn table forum.

What is the approximate budget for the new cartridge?

Did the turn table come with a cartridge?

I bought the turntable from a guy who had installed an Audio Technica ATP-2XN. It came with 2 stylus, one has never been used and I'm thinking of installing it. The speakers are Kenwood KL 777 DX, amp is Adcom 555, pre-amp is Kenwood Basic C3.

Thanks

You will get a lot of opinions on new cartridges because of different tastes in sound and general preferences. As far as that goes, the sky is the limit. It really would help to have a budget to help narrow the choices down some. If at all possible, try to audition some different cartridges (this can be difficult if not impossible these days). A prime consideration will be compatibility with the tonearm of the SL-1500. You need to make sure whatever you choose is compatible with your tonearm. There is a calculator on VinylEngine that takes into consideration tonearm mass and cartridge mass to calculate the resonant frequency (at least a good approximation). This is important. I have to run to meeting now, but much luck in your search.

I used a Technics SL-1500. Most everything else fell in the same design philosophy as your setup.

I would say use what you have, and use a Shure M97xE if you want something else. The Shure works well with so many things.

I also had great success with the Ortofon 2M Red.
