I gave up on my 1600 mk2. It had just too many problems, and I couldn't keep spending money on it.

Were you able to get in touch with Scott Thompson? He fixed a pretty obscure issue on mine (power supply problem)

I tried everyone near me in the UK but decided I did not want to waste more time or money on it.

That's a shame, but completely understandable. These turntables are complex, but are really great if they work properly. Mine would have been long gone had I not found Scott to fix it.
