Technics sl-1700 45 speed too slow

I recently bought a Technics sl-1700 which immediately improved the quality of my music, at least at 33 1/3. BUT I didn't think to test it at 45 rpm when I bought it, and now find that it is way too slow. Does anyone have any thoughts about what might be the cause and solution?

slow 45 speed technics sl-1700

Yes I read the link, but I am not sure it's relevant. My problem is not instability. It is stable at both 33 1/3 and at 45. Both pitch controls (33 and 45) seem to work fine to increase and decrease the speed.

The strobe has different levels for 50 and 60 Hz. I can get it dead on at 45 on the 50 Hz scale--but I cannot get it up to 45 rpm speed on the 60 Hz scale. (33 1/3 is fine at 60 Hz).

In other words, it is just that the basic 45 speed is too slow to begin with.

Technics SL-1700 45 speed problem fixed

I discovered that there are two speed adjustment screws under the platter--one marked 33, the other 45. I simply adjusted the 45 speed and the problem was solved.

Next step: to add a resistor and switch to make it play 78s.

Yes, I was getting ready to post that you needed to adjust the 45 RPM speed adjustment pot under the platter. Glad you got it sorted.
