I found an eBay list for a Technics SL-1900 with an Ortofon OM cartridge (which is said to be in good condition) for $250 and $75 in shipping. I negotiated it down to $175 so there’s no shipping. The table itself is in alright condition but the dust cover has a lot of scratches which I heard can be buffed out. Was this worth the $250 or should I have gotten something else? This is my first table so if you have any advice too that’d be appreciated!

My first TT was a 1900 - back around 1979 or thereabouts - was a demo model with a nice Empire cartridge - paid around $100 or so. Nice auto deck, but realistically, was not Technics best. I see people selling these for stupid money - same for the 1950, 2000 and the like. Maybe the price you noted would be fair for one in like new condition and the cart having very low hours. You should check CL and go to garage/estate sales or auctions, many deals can be had. I don't inted to rain on your parade, just my opinion for what it's worth, polish up the dust cover and enjoy.
