Technics SL-D2 vs SL-23

Thanks David, I think I shall, since one of the items, he had, was a cassette deck and motor wasnt working when he claimed it was. Ebay has him at 100%:nono:, so i always check with toolhaus first. Sure the old Pioneer will be good as a belt drive in my collection.

D2, wonder if it needs oil as well. I have only Singer Oil.

There are those who insist that the only thing to use on Technics direct drives is the official Technics spindle oil but I've used Singer sewing machine oil for years. It works just fine.

I've not heard of toolhaus before. Interesting site.

Yes, the sewing machine oil is what I've used but I suspect that the all purpose oil would be fine.

I read something regarding toolhaus where someone was writing about the practice of a seller hitting the buyer with negative feedback as a form of retaliation when a buyer leaves them negative feedback for cause. The idea is blackmail of course. "I'll withdraw my negative feedback if you withdraw yours."

I've had this happen to me when I left feedback for an unsent item. The seller promptly hit me with negative feedback for non-payment even though I had paid immediately upon ordering through PayPal. Believe it or not, eBay wouldn't support me even though it was obvious that I had indeed paid. In order to get rid of the negative I had to withdraw mine for the seller, just like the person writing about toolhaus.

The best part of the story is that the seller got so squirrely that eBay revoked his selling privileges. So he just set up a new seller's account under a different name.

The seller sent me a completely different turntable. He was a real piece of work. I had to use Ebay Buyer Protection but not before he tried to buy me off with $30. After meticulously packing it and returning it, he sent Ebay photos of a destroyed turntable and tried to claim I didn't pack it well. Total crook. I never expected any of that. His seller ID is tc0843.

Believe me, it works fine. We're dealing with a very slow turning motor here, not like a belt or idler drive motor. As a result, it has very non-critical lubrication requirements. Any good oil thin enough to get itself down into the motor when applied to the base of the exposed spindle will be just fine.

Even worse, he tried to bribe you, and then destroyed the turntable to try to put the blame on you. I never really buy new cds on ebay, i ended up with fake one, sound was shocking. At least vinyl cant be copied, though it can be damaged in postage, or wrongly graded by the seller. It would be interesting to see tc0843 feeback on toolhaus.

Hi John,
I saw the withdrawn thing on toolhaus where they both agreed to withdraw. That is a worry that ebay didnt support you. That seller got away without having negative feedback. Ebay cant spot him setting up again under another name. I do think toolhaus has been useful since I found it. I couldve ended up with that SL-23 today, it may be okay or maybe the motor wasnt working.

The Singer oil I have the all purpose has photos of sewing machines bikes drills, bike chains etc
