Dear AudioKarma Menbers,
I'm new member and I want to apologize in advance for my linguistic and cultural mistakes, if I make any, because English is not my native language
I'm trying to restore my Technics SU 8080 with the help of a technician, but he's only good with doing actual work - disassembly/assembly, soldering, testing, etc. Unfortunately, he's not very good at determining what brand (quality level) replacement parts to use and he doesn't know where to source quality parts. He suggests using new Jamicon capacitors to replace original Matsushita CE series capacitors (light blue with dark blue band and writing). I don' t want to use Jamicons for this amp.
So, I hope some experinced specialists here would help by advising the best replacement capacitors for the original ones, in order to keep the original sound signature - a bit "darkish", very soft, not bright or hissing high frequencies, deep and clean low frequency "foundation", a bit pushed back soft and clean mid frequencies and nice soundstage, that fills the whole room with sound, on certain recordings, instead of keeping sound just between the speakers, like other affordable amps I heard do. Overall, very smooth, soft, "bassy" (in a good way) not fatiguing sound with decent tonal and overall resolution - that's the exact reason a simply love this apparatus.
In need to replace several electrolytic capacitors:
- 470uf 63v - 2 pcs;
- 1000uf 6.3v - 2 pcs;
- 100uf 6.3v - 2 pcs;
- 220uf 6.3v - 2 pcs;
- 1000uf 10v - 2pcs;
And a couple of small transistors, i think, in the pre amp section:
- 2SA794-S
- 2SA722.
For capacitors, I'm looking at modern Panasonic electrolytics, but I'm not sure which series to choose or maybe Elna Cerafines, but I could only find black Cerafines (Chinese made?) ones and a lot of people say that give bright, harsh sound coloration, unlike red (Japanese made) ones. Another thing about capacitors is that some of them have tolerance figures provided in the service manual, while the new ones have 10-20% tolerance figures provided by their respective manufacturers.
For transistors, I'm at a total loss. I can't figure out adequate and preferably not Chinese made replacement ones and where to buy them. NON-CHINESE-MADE replacement parts ARE a priority.
Any advice and/or help is appreciated.
