Technics SU-V8X

Just pulled the trigger on a Technics SU-V8X IA. Specs look amazing and has an MC cartridge input.

I have a set of Klipcsh Synergy F2 Towers rated at 100 watts. I have some JBL rated at 150 but are actually only 8" bookshelf speakers. I needed something with more guts than 45 watts. I was looking for a SU-8099. Couldn't find one on the action site but the SU-V8X specs are close.

I will be rattling the windows in a week.

Congrats, I'm a big fan of the SU series Technics Integrateds. Great sounding units.
 
I owned a SU-8044 in the 1980. I loved that amp except it was just a bit under powered. It lasted for over 20 years till it grew legs and walked off.
The SU-8099 had the same styling as the SU-8044 which is why I wanted the SU-8099.
The SU-V8X I found is brushed aluminum too. I think I will be happy with it.
 
Just hope it doesn't die on you. They like doing that, and as with all Technics, when it dies, you throw it away - they don't like getting fixed.
 
I loved my SU-V3, biggest problem these amps have is the selector switches getting dirty but a quick spray of de-oxit and they're as good as new.
 
Well, speaking of spirit. I received the SU-V8X Saturday. Yesterday I tried to hook it up. But the unit had been dropped. There was impact damage to the left of the unit shifting the whole face plate a 1/16 of an inch to the right. The unit turns on but had no signal out in any of the outputs. I am currently working this one out. Seems I cannot buy a break lately. Actually, I am buying lots of breaks lately.

So the search for a 100+ watt Technics amp is still on. I still like the SU-8099 the best. They are a tad hard to find.

Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear that. You should tell the seller what happened so that he can get in touch with the shipping company.
 
If you are back on the hunt, try the SU-V9. The only complaints I have is that it can't be trusted with an unpleasantly low ohm load (which isn't a fair complaint since the same is true of almost every integrated amp or receiver) and that it doesn't have preamp in/out jumpers so that it could be used as preamp for a power amp that can handle those types of speakers. For most speakers, it is a great amp.

Does the safety operation light stay on after 8 flashes?
 
As far as I can remember, nothing flashed after several minutes. It does not really matter though as this unit will be returned to sender.
 
I have the SU-V9 and it's an awesome and awesomely powerful amp. I also have the 8099 but I prefer the v9. Had a V10-x which was also awesome. Can't go wrong with a working Technics amp IMHO!

OK, so it does work. But the faceplate is still screwed.

Have it hooked up to a B&O RX2 with a MMC3 cart and Miles Davis.

You know, you may just need to loosen the face plate screws and center it again. :)
 
The housing on the left corner is cracked and the faceplate is bent. It is not bad and it could be toyed with to make it fit better. I am working with the seller and shipper to see if they can compensate for the damage yet let me keep the unit. I could possibly find another plate.

I have been played the unit all evening and am impressed with it. I am running a B&O RX2 with the MMC 3 cart. It is a tad muddy in the middle but I am still getting to know the unit. Most of the vinyl I am going thru is pretty heavy in the middle anyway. I am impressed with the detail in the bass. This highs are fine but are getting lost in the rest of the mix. Again I am still working with it. There are more buttons to push and knobs to turn.
