...fyi? I saw the elec bike, a from what a few people have told me n one service tech at a Harley shop this elec bike has a a issue, a full charge will only last 53 miles
Not sure where you saw the bike, unless you're an industry or HD insider...the bike's reveal was yesterday in New York City.
Keep in mind, this is only a prototype test platform. The bike will be making a tour of the US this year, and will only be in 30 HD dealerships. I'm going to have to go to either Seattle or Boise to ride it. They're going to be getting detailed feedback and impressions from everyone who rides it. The plan is to continue development throughout 2015, and the anticipated release to market in 2016.
Along with the Street 500 and Street 750, this is a clear indication that HD is planning for the future. I'm a firm believer in the potential for electric bikes in local riding. Obviously, although they have incredible performance, max range today is around 150 miles. However, here's the interesting part: one of HD's key strategies is charging stations. There really aren't too many populated places in the US where you're more than about three hours from the nearest dealership.
Prior to this announcement, every electric bike has been made by very small, niche companies, with Zero being the largest. No dealer networks across the country, no availability of spare parts or service, unless you take it back to the main location.
HD's entry into the electric motorcycle arena will do exactly the same thing for electric bikes that IBM's release of the Personal Computer did for home computers in 1981. Now that you have a major, global brand behind it, that changes everything.
It's gonna be interesting!
