The "$250" Amp? - 6LU8 Compactron SE, UL

I've been looking for a Nice C1 Cap, and they can really get Pricey. The Schematic shows 155V before it, but similar designs I've checked out show a 400V+ Cap at this location. What is the Lowest Voltage Cap that can be used here? Would 200V work?

You could get away with a 200v cap, but I'd really like to see a 300v rated cap in there.

How about a Vishay Polyester Film 400V +/- 10% from Allied? Or is 10% too loose, and Polystyrene Foil that much better?

Yep, I may have been better off labeling those .33uf instead?
Was not thinking it could confuse, but now I see how it might.
(I'm just use to it with spice modeling software)

OH SHOOT!

Yah I'll fix that now, and relable the caps as well.

Edit: DONE
OK Hopefully that's all, :)

Just added the rest the Caps...Every time I look at This I change Something....
I Really Need to Get a Life.....

Hey Keg, I see that I can use one 680 OHM 10 W in R1 and R7. Is there any reason I should or should not do this???

I there a parts list yet, if not, I can make one up from the schematic. Cheers.

If you want to use a single 10w 680 ohm resistor instead of the other 2 5W resistors
in parallel there is no reason not to do that and it will work just fine also what I'd do.

No I do not believe ED has done a parts list as of yet.

I have been looking at the power side and see some schematics that use wond chokes. Why would I use a PS that uses those? Do you have a favorite PS schematic that would be good for this amp???

Somewhere in this thread are links to the power transformer and chokes we used on the
prototype amp we'd built, I would use the same over again as they worked out very well.
(very inexpensive to boot)

Dennis look back to page 21 and post #308, that's the power supply schem/layout and
tells what page the tranny's are on.

Thanks Keg, I'll print that out and start studying it. As you know, I am also working on my Jensen Imperials....I still have hope. I have been designing the cab for this amp but need to finish a number of projects before I start. In the mean time, I realized I have the Decware Zen amp on my computer desk so I will be using that to drive the Heils untill my $150 amp is done. Cheers.

I am finishing up the design for my amp and need to know if there would be any issues in building this out of a long piece of square 3" X 3" aluminum tube. It will be as long as needed to stuff anything that will fit in the tube. ps, the bottom will be open so technically it is a piece of 3" X 3" channel. Cheers.
