There was plenty of great music in the 70s too.
 
Metal in the 80s was fantastic as well...

Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast, Killers, Powerslave, etc.
Metallica - Kill 'em all, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets
Slayer - Reign in Blood and Hell Awaits
Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime
Dio - Holy Diver
Judas Priest - British Steel, Screaming for Vengence
Ozzy - Blizzard of Oz and Diary of a Madman
Motorhead - Ace of Spade
Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules
Diamond Head - Lightning to the Nations
Scorpions - Blackout

I could go on and on...
 
Slayer’s definitive 1986 Thrash album Reign in Blood. Still considered by most to be the most perfect Thrash album to date. 24 years and going is not a bad run for any album.
 
Cocteau Twins put out some interesting (to me) stuff.

The album "Treasure" among others, is filled with a range from beautiful to harsh sounds with mysterious lyrics I'll never understand.

That's actually the back side cover of their first album... I love their rendition of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire".

I was lucky enough to see those guys and girls on your list play at the local downtown clubs
