Can you recommend a protractor for straight arm turntables?
 
Been listening to vinyl since I was 13. I am 55 now and for the first time in my life I was able to properly set up my Technics TT. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH. I now have enough courage to set up the new TT I will be purchasing in a couple months!!!:beerchug:
 
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I finally got around to setting up my BIC 960 properly and it has definitely made a difference. It took about an hour but the sound is richer with more definition. I replaced the cart that came with the TT with an AT95e. Mmmm. Tasty.

I want to thank you and wish you best regards. I recently came upon a JVC QL-Y5F and it is by far the nicest one I have ever had. I kinda had it set up as far as level and a solid foundation and kinda had the rest close however now I know exactly what to get and how to complete the procedure. I would have never been able to do this on my own as I am severely ADHD and would have never had been able to read and follow all the different "directions" I have found on this subject. The video made it straightforward, step by step. I cannot thank you enough ! (vsat88)
 
I want get the best sound

I am really falling in love with vinyl all over again, currently I have a HK3485 110WPC receiver hooked up to a pioneer PL-514 with the stock empire red cartridge it sounds good but I am looking to get a more complete sound, I also use my infinity kappa 6 series 2 speakers for the sound side of it.where would my smartest choice be to put my money for a more complete sound or am I on the right track for now as always money is the issue but I am willing to swap out other gear and get what best for 2 channel set up. please offer some suggestion I mean what I have now sounds ok but just looking to move up the ladder so to speak.

I would recommend from low to high
Audio Technica AT95E
Shure M97XE
AT440MLa - BEST CHOICE but higher cost....you will be amazed
 
Great advice thanks although needle Doctor talked me right in to the ortofon 2m red cart. So he said hang on you will be impressed so how could i argue with that.

Nice presentation, the one thing I would add regarding leveling the table is to check it with the dust cover up or down whichever way it will be when operating. My Pioneer PL 50 was way off with the cover down due to it's opening angle and the type of suspension on the table, my Yamaha YP701 and Harmon Kardon T60 were not effected.

Just put a huge very heavy piece of marble on the table under my turntable now we shall see if that helps the setup as well ! Thanks again for the support and kind advice and suggestions ! With best regards, vsat88.

I am surprised the cover made a difference in table level...anyway, never play with the cover down anyway as resonance inside will be transmitted to the cart/arm etc.
 
Most good ideas are simple

Never even crossed my mind...Now that you mention it I suppose that would be so. I have no idea why I would play with the cover down but that is exactly what I have been doing. I sit the record down then slowly lower the cover....Think I will try it with the cover up! I do not know how much difference it will make in sound as I really never listen at high volume levels when listening to classical vinyl and that is nearly all I spin. All the rest comes from different sources . Thanks for the suggestions. With best regards, vsat 88.

I listened to vinyl when I was a kid in the 80s on my father's Luxman turntable which later went into the closet. I'm now well into my 30's and after visiting my parents for a summer reunion I found the turntable and some of my old collection in the closet which I brought back home with me.

Very glad to find this video because as a kid I didn't do any of this so now I can set it up properly and realize how bad the condition of my collection is in. lol I did have to replace the cartridge and I'm not sure how long the original belt will last, but it works for now.

Never-the-less, I've already ordered more LP's so I guess I'm officially back in the vinyl game. Now, who needs a PacMan picture disc or Alvin and the Chipmunks? :)
