Congratulations Carve it!! I hope your SA-1000 arrives in one piece. Judging by this thread, the SA-1000 draws a lot of attention and excitement. I'm looking forward to your review and please start a new thread.Carve it said:Guilty as charged again.
Sometimes I get crazy ideas. Oh well.
As far as the Technics SA -1000 goes, IMHO they are undervalued. The whole SA-**** line is. The ones that I have had have been solid performers but certainly not flashy. Most people outside of AK don't know the SA-1000 holds the paper title for wpc and here at AK, it doesn't get much respect. If Pioneer and Yamaha had a kid, it might be the SA-1000. Although every one would wonder if Sansui had been around, because the SA-1000 has 2 big knobs also.
Hopefully it will show up in one piece, otherwise the SA-1000 will take over the money pit crown at my house (from Marantz).

I am the future, and here locally in 2015 there is an SA-1000 for almost 3000 bucks. I think it's a ridiculous price. I had an SA-700 and it was punchy and powerful with a good tuner, but overall the sound was kind of mediocre.

You are the future? It's a 7 year (or 8 since the ebay listing ended) thread resurrection.![]()
Exactly my point. i believe someone referred to what future prices might be...hence 7 or 8 years later..."I am the future". Then I commented on current prices. There is no law against commenting on old threads as far as i know.

Technics certainly never had a problem with their aesthetics- their turntables are among the most beautiful pieces of hi-fi art ever. I mean can you really fault the SL1200mkII in any way? Their big power amps were really attractive. Their receivers were just as good looking as most others. Obviously there is always some that become classics for their relatively timeless design, but we are looking back 20 or 30 years here and it is easy to blur recollections and have the benefit of hindsight. If I had seen a new 1000 sitting on the shelf in the 70's, I would have lusted after it just as much as a pioneer sx1980 and probably gone with the most powerful. But I had no money then and they were all out of reach.
This blind allegiance and so called recollection of how something sounded 20 years ago is ridiculous. Our brains can't recall something from 10 seconds ago, letalone 20 years.
I know this is an old thread but for someone reading this I would like to point out that this is just not true. Where did you hear or see this? I'm referring to 3db being the smallest increment detectable by the ear.I almost curious enough to own one but not at today's crazy prices. It takes a doubling of power to gain 3 dB, which is the minimum volume gain the human ear can discern. So, buying a 300 watt super monster like the SA-1000 makes no sense for easy listening especially when factoring in the lukewarm reviews and hefty price. Collecting is another story. I'll stay in the 150 watt range and save a bundle with great sounding receivers like the STR-V7, SX-1250, and Concept 16.5.
He is 100% correct. The Oscars go to favourites and not necessarily the best. Quite often if a certain actor has never won one and they are old and not likely to get one, the academy awards one even though their performance wasn't the best. This has happened many times. Many actors couldn't care lessBut it's regarded as the best by certain industry standards.
Should we just throw away the whole Pro Bowl selections because they're not always the best? Is there any monkey business going on behind the scenes?
How about the Hall of Fame? Should we just do away with that because they're probably not the best and sports writers are a bunch of schemers?
How about we break up the Supreme Court also while we're at it since whatever they decide isn't the best decision...........
