The beauty of Bogen

Bogen was more known for industrial and professional gear. They did mess around in the hifi market a bit, but I don't think it was ever a big money maker for them. Eventually they quit. I suspect it was a case of too much competition to be profitable enough to justify the trouble but thats just my guess. They're still around making industrial sound equipment.

Hey everyone. I wanted to say one very Kool thing here. Since we are talking beauty of bogen.
I got this DB230A 13 or 14 months ago. It had sat in basement. The powder coated hoods we looking rusty. It was dusted up horrible. The old man told me that the only time it was used was on Christmas and new years. He was engineer for IBM. Said he worked to damned much. (: I soaked hoods in hot bleachwater. I spent probably 20 solid hours cleaning the amp and reciever.
It still has original bogen branded 6av5's all the original everything. Silk screen was a tedious job to touching. Most time went into the under side of chassis. I went thru every capacitor and resister. Inspected. Cleaned with alcohol no signs of anything. No melted wax. No poop stains. The wiring under theres not rubber insulated. Theres high quality insulated stuff there. My guess why amp sounds so good. One more thing while I'm at it.... all the capacitors are doubled up in parralel. Says alot. I'd say I've put 4 or 500 hours on this bogen. My bozaks had some new wax put in crossovers. Only issue I have and really doesn't concern me right now is the st 662 reciever. It works. But feeds amp a hum. Im guessing tube. I think capacitors are solid. I'd like to use it to recieve my phone signal. Im currently using phone jack direct to amp. I know I'm restricted. But still loud.

Wow. I could say same to your bogen setup there. Dual mono block. Can you mix them? What kinda watts those channels put out?
The amp originally came as a 200 watt mono amp. Actually 2 channels bridged at the outputs. It was converted to a stereo amp. As part of the conversion it was reduced from 8-8417's to 4-6550 output tubes, but IIRC it ended up about 130wpc. There's a huge thread on AK somewhere by our own Dave Gillespie the tube guru, chronicling the conversion. My only contribution was costmetics.Should be under the Mighty Bogen MO200a. I have the specs here, but would need to dig them out. Here's the thread.

^^ that circuit is what my MO-100a's are using. The 100a is half of a 200a, so basically I've got a pair of mono amps and he's got the stereo amp. Mine also don't look anywhere near that nice.

Gadget, I wish I had your electronic skills. Pretty easy to spray some paint, but being able to do what you tube magic dudes do is well beyond me.

honestly all I did was follow the map Dave had come up with. Its about the same for cooking, I can follow someone else's recipe but nobody is ever going to confuse me with a chef.

Thats awesome. What a statement there. Concert hall stuff there

I know I'm jumping into a discussion here that's been going on for seven+ years. But, saw some pics today of a Bogen RP230 receiver. Are there published specs for this unit? Also, it is so much a product of its times! On the AM band tuner face, there are deltas set at 640kHz and 1240kHz, the frequencies designated for Conelrad, the early warning system established by the US government to broadcast alerts in the event of nuclear attack.

Hi, I'm new to the forum, I've put together an extensive collection of BOGEN tube equipment, both hifi and P.A. amplifiers, they are a great product !! many of which I've rebuilt with very impressive results, no modifications just all new caps and any resistors as needed and a VERY thorough cleaning, some highlights of my collection are: 3 pairs of db20's the oldest dark green ones with all painted lettering, the newer hammertone green with gold faceplates and the newest all gold with faceplates I also have pairs of many different styles of db10, db110 and 3 db 115's, 3 db130's, 3 px15's a DO30 monoblock and matching Pr100 preamp also a PR100A preamp a pair of Do10 monoblocks and the very rare PR-RC preamp/remote control head assembly which plugs in to the DO10 and other monoblocks, an assortment of bogen tube tuners of many different styles from the oldest to the newest, in PA equip I have a pair of HX50's a perfect pair of CHA20's, a CHA 33 with the phono top and others. Although I have no mac or marantz I do have a very large collection of tube hifi in other brands- pilot, bell, harmon kardon, rca, fisher, sherwood, stromberg carlson, voice of music, lafayette, webcor, arkay, precise, thordarson, dukane, executone, eico, dynaco, schulmerich and a large collection of heathkit, including a pair of W5M's and an Sp2 preamp which I'm currently rebuilding (I've had them since 1979 when I got them at a yard sale with all the manuals, cords, spare tubes, a pair of university 312 drivers and a rek-o-kut turntable- all piled in milk crates and marked "RADIO STUFF ETC $5.00" !!!) the woman who was running the sale couldn't have cared less about them, remember those days? I was 14 at the time. all the equipment I have is in perfect cosmetic condition, I sold off anything that was rusty, dented, discolored, missing parts etc to a bulk vintage electronics collector/liquidator where it will be re-homed to people who will appreciate it. This is a great hobby! , I also collect/restore tube televisions portable phono's, reel to reels, fans, phones and anything else that's old, electrical and in need of a home. I started this madness when I was pre-teen riding my bike and picking stuff out of the trash to restore. (my parents wanted to kill me with all the stuff I dragged home, !!!!! HAHAHAHA LOL!!). what are some of your stories?

yes those are the "CONELRAD" symbols

I want to see some pictures of those PA amps! Which RCA models do you have?
Hi Alex, I'm working on pics, none yet, you can use google images, search bogen HX50, CHA20, CHA33, The RCA equip I have: power amps: pair MI12182A, pair Mi12188a single MI4288D, MI12222-D, MI12190A also have RCA rack mount tube tuner and RCA tuner/preamp which is a match to the MI12190 power amp.

love pa amps, please show off your pr100's. I've been looking for one a long time. I've had good luck with finding some rare Bogen but no luck on that preamp.

I will definitely work on that, it may take a while but I won't forget, most of my tube audio is on a long shelf 2 rows deep behind another set of rolling shelves, turns out it wasn't the greatest way of organizing equip
