The best Dynaco preamp

Yes it will sound good no doubt-I like the sound through my st70 using the Heathkit sp2-or my 12au7a preamp I built myself.

I dont want to make similiar topic so Im diggin tis out:)
Anyone use 12B4A preamp wit Dynaco ST? I use ST35 and need low gain from pre. Looking at many opinions its great coice. Anyway I would like to know if anyone got it connected or tried wit ST35.

My opinion, and it's just that MY opinion is stray away from the pas2/3 preamps.

Week power supplies including tranny and a good bit of mods to make it decent.

By the time you've bought one/modded/rebuild it I personally feel you could get
much more for the money/time spent on one of the Pas Pre's.
What Kegger said +1!

Much better options than the PAS now...especially if you are paying more than $100 for one........late 70's-90's you could make them work for the $ invested.

I believe the DIY community has expanded such now that they are not a good option at the regular asking prices and there are options that sound much better with more dynamics and authority.

I got a beautiful Van Alstine fully modded PAS 2 awhile back over in BT for about 4 bills. It sounds absolutely amazing, including it's phono. I've used pre's that ran me almost triple that didn't provide me as much enjoyment. A PAS with full Curcio or Van Alstine mods will sound great in the same price ball park, or even less. There may be other pre's for that price that are equal or better but I'm not aware of them.

F'rinstance?

SS pre ok

I rebuilt my Pat-4 pre (SS) with parts from updatemydynaco(no affiliation) and am very happy with the result.
I also replaced all res. with low noise and all caps.
The big change was replacing the Q4 transistors with a Darlington type trans.
Claimed distortion went down to .002%.
I also did the power supply by replacing it with a new board.
It took a while but is worth it.
The sound is light, clean and dynamic. Very much the best I have ever had.
There are other upgrades available but I am happy now.
