I know many here love to hate on any type of Country music. Please shed your vitriol and negativism elsewhere; perhaps start your own Hate Country thread. Many long-time members will be aware that my taste in music includes many genres. Among them (not limited to them) are bluegrass, old country and new country. Here we talk about bluegrass.

The Time Jumpers - Jumpin' Time is very good current Bob Wills-style Western Swing. I just discovered them recently, so am late to the party. Some of Nashville's best musicians, including Vince Gill on guitar.

For Bob Wills himself - 20th Century Masters is a good sampler of some of his best.

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Will the Circle Be Unbroken is an historic recording which lives up to its potential, and introduced millions to the genre.

So I kicked it off with three, but there are so many great ones I want to add... but I leave them for others to suggest. Try to keep it to three or less so all can play.

As a Grateful Dead fan, I've found my way to one of my favorites the "Old and in the Way" w/ Jerry Garcia
Love to listen to Ricky Skaggs, Flat and Scruggs and any other derivatives of Bill Monroe, "the Father of Bluegrass".

Also am bessed to live within FM reception of WAMU, Bluegrass Country out of DC.

I got to see Strings and Julin at the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Festival. (http://lineup.bristolrhythm.com/events/2015/09/18/) My jaw was on the floor!
 
The Dillards "Backporch Bluegrass" is a great recording of a great band. My grandson calls it his "dancing music that grandma hates". Also have a listen to "Neck to Neck", a Chet Atkins/mark Knopfler duo. Another great one is Suzy Bogguss "Great American Songbook". What a voice!!
 
I bought a copy of New Primitive by Adam Steffey a few months back, and have really enjoyed it. He went for a combination of old-time and Bluegrass and I think it works.



Disclaimer: Adam and I went to East Tennessee State together, where we have a unique program in old-time, country and bluegrass music. Congratulations to Adam for coming back and completing his degree earlier this year.
 
No mention yet of the protean bluegrasser, Bill Monroe...or Doc Watson...or the Carter Family? Not to mention more up-to-date names such as New Grass Revival, The Seldom Scene, Nickel Creek (and Punch Brothers), Old Crow Medicine Show, Yonder Mountain Sring Band?

If we're talkin' artists, besides David Grisman and Tony Rice, how about Hazel Dickens, Herb Pedersen, Chris Hillman (yes, that Chris Hillman), Del McCoury, and...and...

Just like talkin' 'bout whiskey makes you thirsty, this is makin' me drag out and play some good 'uns.

Interesting thread !
I stumbled across this group quite by accident, and was totally impressed by them. I detect elements of bluegrass, rock, and 200 year-old Irish folk music in their unusual style. However you define it, I like it !
