I am a collector of many things beyond audio equipment and music (in all its forms), and was thinking that many of you also collect cool things. From toy trains to baseball cards to whatever. I am well aware that there is a mid-century modern thread, a poster thread, among others. But there really isn't a thread (that I am aware of) for us to share and show off everything else.

This is a thread to post your "everything else) cool stuff! If you collect it, we would love to see it and this thread will hopefully become lively and fun to check in on. I fully encourage you to post anything new you find. Who knows we might find people who collect the same crap that you collect and we can make new friends and possibly even end up trading with one another through our mutual love for ephemera!

With this thread, anything goes!

I'll kick it off.

I think that my collecting is a tradition that I caught off an aunty of mine.
I always remember visiting her farm where she had a room built for her Stone and bottle collection.

Well I also collect bottles having been an avid digger when my back could handle it.
I also have a thing for stones and whilst I lived in Nth Queensland I spent a lot of time looking for them and also fossils.

I also collected stone artifacts and have amassed a fair collection of stone axes and stone implements.
Recently at a garage sale I come across some Indian stone arrow heads which is very unusual in Australia

I have a collection of coins as well. I purchased a metal detector many years ago Whites 6000D which I wore out and now have a Minelab.
The oldest coin I've found is a 1796 half penny.

I collect interesting books which could be anything that takes my fancy but mainly Australiana and militaria.

Old coloured glass and pottery, mainly the Genie bottles which my wife loves. She decorates the house with them, having a green section a blue section, amber , orange etc.

I have a small collection of fishing gear, rods and reels.
Also old tools, planes etc.

I do have other stuff which will be stashed away in cupboards like all collectors:yes:


But the main thing I concentrate on is records and audio gear which I religously look for.
Always looking for something new and interesting and up grading on the way:thmbsp:

I also collect various things, these guys are one of them, vinyl toys, here is a set from 2011 Record Store Day by the artist Kozik. I warn you, collecting these things can get addictive and expensive. You think some of us audio folks are crazy and intense, check out some of the vinyl toy forums.

I collect UK pre-cert videos (unclassified/uncensored videos before 1985),besides hi-fi etc.
It's a very expensive,quite common hobby here in the UK,some mega rare titles can go between £400-£800 on Ebay UK.I've been collecting for 2 decades.I also own some mega rare one offs (only one copy known to exist),will post some pics later.

I'd like to collect things but don't have any money. How'd you like to be in Jay Leno's shoes and own almost every car model ever made?

They are running these Gold Buffalo coin commercials on TV now. Said there was one pressing or something and originally worth $50 but now you can buy them for like $9.99. Wonder how much truth is in that. Seems too good to be true.

I have a pretty good collection of coins, guns, radios going back to about 1925 or so, TVs going back to '47, & a '65 Lincoln Lehmann-Petersen Limo, a '67 Lincoln Convertible sedan, a '69 Lincoln Sedan, & a '51 Chevy Ton Panel Wagon.

Sandy, I have a '54 GMC 1-ton DeLuxe panel truck. I've only run across 10-15 surviving '54 GMC 1-ton panels, and only two or three of them have had the DeLuxe trim package. Currently in storage on my parents' property, it'll be restored/retro-rodded one of these days.

I have small collections of various interesting things, but I do have some cool comics - including a complete run of Star Trek comics from '79 onward and Green Lantern from '69 onward (and nearly complete back to 1960).

One of my latest "Kewl" toys is a 1949-50 12" Zenith Porthole TV...Screen is completely round..Got it from VK member Harry Poster, & took it to Terry DeWick & had it gone thru...Works DANDILY...People, especially kids, are ASTOUNDED by it...You wanna see one just like mine, go to Youtube, & type in "Liberace/Nola"...The guy who ran Zenith back then didn't much like TV, but it was too big of a market to ignore....But he told his engineers to NOT bring one out til they'd gotten it "Right"...Those early postwar Zenith TVs usually need just a normal re-capping, & a few tubes to come back to life...I'd like to see virtually ANY Chinese and/or Korean MODERN TV still working 63 years down the road...And this thing is SO "1950" looking..Not '55 or '59...Having a TV was a Big Deal in 1949-50...So the TV WASN'T just an ugly grey plastic box, like they are today..It was SPECIAL looking, something to be PROUD of..

Those vinyl dolls and vintage Christmas ornaments/lights are awesome. I too collect vintage Christmas ornaments. My wife inherited a tinsel/aluminum tree from her mom, who bought it back in 1961. We use ornaments that I inherited from my mom. So far we have upgraded the base with one of those ones that rotates as well as a mid-century color wheel.

Not really. You should get the other two primary colors so you can call it a "set". (Nice car.)

I didn't intend to collect Jaguars and rather intended to sell off the old one after each new one, but out of 7, I've kept five. (But I still wish I'd kept those other two, too.)

I collect too many things. At one point, I had five pianos (4 grands and an upright). Whittled it down to two when I changed cities a few years ago, keeping the biggest and a smaller one. Now I'm back up to four.) I suppose I collect telescopes, too, as I've seven, from small to huge.

Aside from books and original oil paintings and music and more common stuff including coins and stamps and fine glass and rose bushes, I collect good plank-on-frame wooden models of the classic ocean liners. My most recent two are my favorite--the Normandie of 1932 and France of 1962, exemplifying as they do, the two most beautiful liners ever built. But I have many others (started collecting at around 12), including, of course, Titanic, Lusitania, Mauretania (1907), Great Eastern, United States, Queen Elizabeth (1939), Queen Mary (1936), QE2, Canberra, Oriana and many others.

Unfortunately, the many I built as a child I floated in the pool, and lit on fire, so I could make home movies of epic disasters.

I'm a collector of anything vintage that strikes my fancy! lets see here.... I have:

vintage 35mm slide viewers
mechanical wind-up pocket watches
a mechanical wind-up stopwatch
2 8mm movie cameras
8mm films and an 8mm film projector
my biggest collection other than stereo equipment is books
and I have a few vintage film cameras (photography is another one of my hobbies!)

Oh, yeah, that reminds me--I forgot cameras. I collect Nikon and Leica. There's a closet full next to me. (I was a newspaper photographer in my earliest working incarnation.)

(I also collect vintage Christmas ornaments. I've got all sorts of tinsel stuff, every type of lighting ever made, and more than 15,000 wooden ornaments, with no two alike. I've only put them all up twice in 30 years. )

Right now is great time to scour antique stores for them, as they are discounted after the holiday. Also, hit up some yard sales, I have faith that you will find a good one!

Old tools and pretty rocks. Yeah, got a lapidary bench out in the garage, too. A pic of an Australian opal that I cut and made into a bolo tie. Do my own silversmithing, too. Got to work on my photography, though...

Oh yeah, I almost forgot - I picked up a common disease from you Akers, Magnavox tube amps, several of 'em.

Those are pretty cool. I have a set of 1950's christmas lights that have their own sparkling feature, it uses small bimetallic strips, but when they turn on and off they chime, it's really neat. Only downside is the incredibly loud transformer. Tried to get a video of it this year, but the camera only records in .mov:scratch2:

Tons of random junk around here that's kinda a collection? i'll get some pics tomorrow, maybe play a little "guess what this is"
