The.crush that got away

Back in 2017-2018, I was in 7th grade middle school when I met my first (and so far only) crush to date. It was this very short-easily the shortest in the grade-but cute white gal with wavy dark brown (bronze?) hair and hazel eyes as I recall it. I think she was something like 4'-9"? Maybe 4'-7"? I dunno...

This was also around the time when I had just joined AK and was still (very much) learning to have polite internet discussions considering my immaturity (which was not just limited to AK, mind you...but also YouTube & esp. Google+ which I was EXTREMELY edgy towards and would get into arguments with Internet strangers all the time!)

Anyway this crush was very kind and super sweet. Even though she was already taken by one of my classmates at the time (who I recently got back in touch with after many years), I distinctly remember she would give me a pack of those seaweed sheets every so often, and I would take a bite out of the whole pack of sheets like the dingus I was...also remember playing arm wrestling with my classmates including her. Good times were had.

The last time I saw her in-person was on June 2nd 2018 when I was walking with my mom to go look at a CRT TV I saw at a garage sale in a rich part of the neighborhood when I heard my crush call my name to say hi. She told me she was moving out, but I didn't think to ask where...nor did I think to ask for her contact info. Apparently neither did my mom. I didn't have a phone at the time, and it would be nearly two months later that I would get my first phone. This was also shortly before I joined AK. I did have a tablet, except that I never took it out with me (since it was a Wi-Fi only model, no LTE).

8 years later, none of my old school friends nor any of my teachers that I've been able to get in touch with know where she went. We have a name (first & last), we have a face...we just don't know if she's still alive, or if she even has any social media presence. This (almost) feels like a missing persons case.

For now though, I'd like to hear about your stories of "the crush that got away"

'None of them got away'

Sounds like the title of a Horror movie, but allow me to explain;

As a teenager my crushes were gutwrenching, I simply had to express my feelings to start processing them.
Many rejections were had, but a few short- and one longer relationships too.
If you deny yourself things, you'll deny yourself (and the other person) the beautiful next steps or at the very least, the learning experience that is rejection.
On the other hand, as gutwrenching as it was, I've kept my feelings to myself a handful of times because I didn't want to mess up a good friendship. And am happy that I did. If the feelings would have been strong enough for both sides they would have surfaced (more clearly) anyway. Many good moments were- and in some cases will be had with those friends.

For now though, I'd like to hear about your stories of "the crush that got away"
Unrequited love can be a lifetime thing. It's funny how the brain can shape recollections over time.

I like to keep old GFs in my memories — there, they are always young and innocent. Seeing them today may shock the system. I'm sure that I'd shock them, too!

The worst one (of many) was Marilyn Manson's ex.
(Her name is on the back of their first album)

Met her at Lollapalooza (the first one) 65 miles away from where I lived.
Turns out she lived right around the corner from me.
Moved there from Miami the year before.

Smartest human I have ever met.
Everything I ever wanted in a girl.
Liked the right music, had the right attitude.
Drove a 69 Firebird and knew how to work on it.
Played keyboards.
Painted multi-dimensional art (kind of like MC Escher).
Had a pet iguana....and black chickens.

Too bad she treated me like a convenient servant.
She could be sweet, though if it suited her.

On again, off again for three years.

Probably out of my league.

...and right after that...

Stole my friend's girlfriend.
(Probably should have known)
She seemed like a better match for me to both of us.
Stunningly beautiful- like a cross between Barbara Eden and a young Leeza Gibbons.
Helped her through Hodgkin's disease.

Crushed me when she went back to him.

Hard to recover from that one-two punch in rapid succession.

There's the crush that got away. Then, there's the crush that ran away at the speed of light.

I don't take those things personally. ;)

When I was young, I could develop a deep and meaningful love in the time it took to ride the elevator 6 floors, so, lots of crushes that never had a chance to run their full course.

This gives a delicate perspective. Jesse Winchester's Brand New Tennessee Waltz. It's the lyrics.

[Lyrics Jesse Winchester - The Brand New Tennessee Waltz]Oh, my, but you have a pretty face
Why, you favor a girl that I knew
An' I imagine that she's still in Tennessee, boy
And by God, I should be there too
'Cause I've a sadness that's too sad to be true

But I left Tennessee, in a hurry, dear, now
In the same way that I'm leaving you
Because love is mainly just memories, you see
And everyone has got him a few
So when I'm gone, I'll be glad to love you

At the brand new Tennessee Waltz
You were literally waltzing on air
At the brand new, oh, Tennessee Waltz
It's just no telling who will be there

When I leave it'll be like I found you, love
Descending Victorian stairs
And I'm feeling like one of your photographs, girl
Oh, ah, I'm trapped while I was putting on air
So I get even by sayin', Well, who cares?

At the brand new Tennessee Waltz
You were literally waltzing on air
At the brand new, oh, Tennessee Waltz
It's just no telling who will be there
So have all of your passionate violins
Play a tune for a Tennessee kid
Who, this feeling, like leaving another town, now
But with no place to go if he did
'Cause they'll catch you wherever you hid
At the brand new Tennessee Waltz
You were literally waltzing on air
At the brand new, oh, Tennessee Waltz
It's just no telling who will be there

They (whoever these people are) say that one truly falls in love... only the once in a lifetime!

All the rest are "poor reflections" that follow.

I :dunno:.

Someday, someone will come along that doesn’t “get away”. Those that did get away have a tendancy to fade from memory when that happens.
