The death of Big Red Football

When Neb. fired Coach Solich after a winning season, they claimed that they were not going to concede the big 12 to Texas or Oklahoma and they would not accept mediocrity. Indeed, sad times for Big Red and their fans.

For those that need a reminder:

No Thread Crapping
"Thread Crapping" occurs when a person comes into a thread and posts something contrary to the spirit/intent of the thread, often derailing the discussion or turning it into an argument.

What about the lesser-known but equally offensive "Thread belching?" Or "Thread Whizzing?"

Not that I'd ever derail a thread or turn it into an argument. That would be mean.

So, for no other reason than the memories that Nebraska incites pertaining to that teacher, I feel no pain at their current demise.
I can see that....
Having lived in Michigan for Years.....:D
To be honest I did not expect to much in the way empathy regarding Nebraska Football. This was more of a musing over a once proud Program. Hopefully changes are on the horizon. I do however, want to wish the other Big 12 north programs the best for the rest of the season. I will rooting for them all....:thmbsp:, even (gulp) Colorado...:D

Thanks mods...
I do believe that could be an excellent topic of discussion, just not for this particular thread.

AD Steve Pederson is the first casualty as he was fired today. Were I Bill Callahan or any of his staff I would feeling very uneasy right now....
This could become very ugly.....

His days are numbered, As a long time fan, It has been a downhill slide since Osbourne retired. Back in the mid 80's all the thru the 90's, The huskers were power football. They just lined up and said, Were gonna run on you all day, Try to stop us. Trashing the triple option was the end of husker football. Nobody did it better, Ever.

I was talking about this with my friend the other night. Do we expect way too much from kids and coaches? You can't be good year in and year out. Teams have streaks, and do well over 4 and 5 year periods, but to be good every single year is just not possible. Nebraska has gone 28-14 under Callahan, many programs would love to have that record over a 3-year period. No matter how good recruiting classes are they are based on speculation. Every kid peaks at different times, and a recruiting class is based on the speculation that a group of kids will be good in 2 to 3 years (although sometimes sooner). Either way kids are kids, they make mental mistakes, have bad games, and bad years. That's life. Nebraska will be good again, they have a storied program, and will continue to recruit good kids, but people have to stop expecting results immediately, and can't expect to be good every year.

I think the last nail went in his coffin yesterday. That was ugly.

When Callahan left the Kansas field, he walked right past acting
AD Osbourne and didn't stop to talk to him.

If Callahan's still here after the season's over, I'll be surprised!

Maybe Dr. Tom will consider coaching the team again for a short "interim" period untill they find another coach. I think ten years should do it..:D

When Callahan is fired (notice I didn't say "if"), The Huskers will lose most if not all of any recruiting
power we have left.

And may not get any power back for a while till we can build back up under the new coach.

You and I have just become fast friends.....

Bill

Well, I didn't disclose it earlier, but I was born in North Platte NE. My mothers side of the family are all from Nebraska. My older brother Troy still lives in Lincoln. So, yeah, I bleed red..:D
