The electrovoice experience ! ! Sp15 x 4?

I am not really sure what the difference is between the A/B crossovers. You have one of each, man the phillips screwdriver and enlighten us, enquiring speaker geeks want to know, Andrew.

Well I Do like taking things apart, and since you insist that I dismantle your equipment for all to see....OK ! :D

Sentry IV B

Just so I don't jumble the pics..I'm gonna do 'em one at a time.
Here is the Sentry B

crossovers

Just a guess here, but it could be that there was a driver change between the A and B models. Maybe an 1823 to 1824 in the mids or possibly a change in woofer drivers. Either way, could it be that the change in drivers was not significant enough electrically to warrant a crossover rework by EV? How about it, anyone know the answer or want to hazzard a guess. Regards, Andrew.

Those look to be very heavy duty to me.

The big red rod looking things I believe are resistors. Replace the 30uf and 2uf caps if you can.

Well we will have to look into that..possibly on both sets. :scratch2:

The pair I bought will probably be here next week. Too bad everybody doesn't ship as quickly as I do. :sigh:

Crossover

If any of our Sentry lll owners would be so kind as to post a close-up picture of the Slll crossover I would be very grateful. I would guess that the mid and high sections are similar, if not identical, and that the woofer section would be different ( Slll=600hz xover point, S4=400hz xover point). This might give us a good idea of which direction we should take in tweaking these crossovers to fit your system, The Sentry SP15. I am a certified idiot when it comes to crossovers, and many other things according to my wife, so some help here would be appreciated. Thanks, Andrew.

Mock up !

The horns on top set up is experimental at this time.
This is what I would like to see as an end result ! :D

I'd really like to get everything inside the box. But if the sound is that much better I will go the other way !

D00d... build something akin to the JBL K2 layout with those:

K2-S9500-1_small.jpg

That would absolutely kick @$$ with two SP15s per side!

Regards,
Gordon.

Just for the sake of accuracy, it should be noted that the Sentry lll used a B15 woofer, not a 15B. The B15 Sentry woofer has a foam surround and is similar to the newer DL15W. The 15B, or EVM15B, is part of EV's musical instrument speaker lineup (bass guitar) and has a pleated surround. Two completely different woofers, although easily confused because of the similarity in model numbers. Stephen and I decided to try the EV horn combo primarily because I had them, and the crossovers, lurking in my basement. Although much tweaking is still required, it sounds pretty good. I know Stephen has some other horns he is going to try, and I am going to see what I can borrow from a friend here in Flint that runs a pro sound company. It should prove to be a fun project! Warmest Regards, Andrew.

The 15B can be reconed as a B15. Same frame and magnet. I've done it. So can the 15L and/or DL15...

Regards,
Gordon.

Sound test....

rage ( Sean ) stopped by yesterday. We put the EV's through their paces. i.e.... Pink Floyd,The Eagles,The Doors.....The wasp and Riders on the storm sounded like we were in the studio. There doesn't seem to be a sweet spot in the room anymore. :D
He dropped off a heat gun so I can get the rest of the formica of the cabs.Problem now is,I don't want to dismantle them to work on the cabs.
Guess I should get it in gear and try to get these and the Aristowaves done.
I am very pleased with the sound. Now If I can just locate my Fisher 500c :scratch2:
I know I had one around here a few months ago.
Very clean little unit, well not really so little....oh, now I remember. :D
Oh Paul (kegger)...hook me up Dood ! :tresbon:

These are the first BIG horns I've heard.

At 1/4 the dial on his little solid state Technics I had to cover my ears.

With some smooth music they really sing, and with rock they'll shake the house.

I'm going to take some music with me next time and put them through the paces with some jazz and other odd ****. Quite impressed.

I think with recapping the crossovers and dialing down the horns a bit they'll really be impressive.

Heat guns rule !

Took about an hour. No more ugly azz greenish brown formica. I think I'm gonna wrap these cabs in finished plywood and stain them to match my Barzilay console.
