The electrovoice experience ! ! Sp15 x 4?

More listening...

...more observations.:D
I pulled one of these cab's apart,to remove the formica. Therefore it was disassembled and I wasn't listening to them. My Aristowaves are going to be completed this week sometime, so I had to pull them apart for proper measuring of the baffles.
This meant reassembling the biguns' so I would have something to listen too.
It had only been a week, but I forgot how sweet these sound. I spent most of the day yesterday listening to a lot of my favorite tracks.Mostly Rock and Roll of various types.
I can't wait to be able to ''control'' the highs and mids separately.Certain songs sound perfect. Pink Floyd-Wish you were here- The Doors- Riders on the storm
and The Wasp.Others seem to have just a tad too much from the horns, nothing serious.Just seems like if I could ''lighten'' the mids and highs and increase the volume slightly overall, they'd be freaking awesome.
These are still very much in the experimental stage, but I am very very encouraged at this point.
Oh yeah,I picked up some wooden end tables that are going to be re-worked to house the mid horns. Not sure of tweeter placement at this point.
Also, other than rage running some preliminary numbers on the box size. I haven't approached any of the resident speaker guru's for proper tuning / port placement and dimensions.
Kegger tells me he has my 500c on the bench. :D this should be a great combo, I can't wait.

Isn't that what the SEQ box was made for? I'm not EXACTLY sure which speakers you hooked back up to listen to your tunes so excuse me if I'm off base.

I use the SEQ box to dial down the mids/highs as much or more than I use it to boost the bass.

Cheers,
Bob

If thats the case I could have bought one from the bay for $10.00 yesterday. :scratch2: one seq for both speakers?

from my ear its your tweeters that seem to be really hot.

put an l-pad on them to start.

I have two to give you...need to make it over this week maybe.

I'm not sure of the efficiency of the 1824m and those monster mid-ranges either, I suppose they could be a good deal hotter than the woofer also...but when I listened it was the little horns that were screaming.

I had thought maybe the woofers were not quite as efficeient myself until I realized its all in the source. They come alive with a well recorded LP.

Yup - one for both speakers, hooks up just like a EQ.

If your hi tweeters are screaming, does yours have a primitive l-pad in the form of a 3 position screw type toggle? I had the same issue in my listening room and dialed down the hi's to the mid position. I used to run a real EQ to take care of any of those issues and I suppose you can do that but my EQ has more IM distortion than my source did so I took it out of the system. Lights were cool tho. I got tired of jumping up every LP to adjust the EQ for the different sound engineering on each LP and just decided to remove it. I'm better off without an EQ, now just use the SEQ box. Sometimes I still adjust the dial for more of less mids/hi's depending on what I'm listening to.

Cheers,
Bob

OMG ! Recap rocks the manor !

Rage came by last night, put some L-pads in place, and recapped the Sentry V XO's.....:jawdrop: :ntwrthy: Thanks Sean !
I'll be honest, up until now I was kinda kidding myself about how much I liked them. ... NOT ANYMORE !! :D
All doubts have been removed from my mind as to the end results of this project. :music:
Thanks to AFP1 AKA Andrew my EV Guru....The horns and Tweets are now mine. :deal: and I can move forward. Now if I can just get my cabinet guy off his arse...these will be ready, more than ready for AK Fest !

I love these speakers..

..so much I am going to assemble another pair.
I am giving them a dose of Solid State power today Via a newly acquired Marantz 2235.
The mids and highs on these are very sweet... close to the way I remember my JBL 4412's sounding. ( currently, those are in need of a re-foaming :tears: ).
The bass response on these is very satisfying, and rivals anything I've heard to date.
For now I think I prefer the sound of The Fisher 500c. But I am planning on switching them back and forth over the next two or three days to see if I can really pick out the differences.
