The First Record You Ever Bought

I was sitting here and doing a few things on the computer while I copy an LP to the computer. If I find a rare or extremely nice LP I like to digitize it. This one is Ray Charles "All Time Great Country And Western Hits". It is a 2 record set and it is in mint condition.

"I Can't stop Loving You" just played and it almost made me cry with memories! :tears:What a song! It was the first 45 record I ever bought. That was around 1964 or so. The flip side was "Born To Loose" one of the ultimate tear jerkers of all time!:tears:

What an artist Ray Charles was! What was the first record single or LP that you ever bought with your own money? When was it and why did you like it then? Do you still like it? Franksta

Why? Because I was 9.

My brother tried talking me out of it, but I bought it any way. I listened to it about a million times.

My first record was Rubber Soul, it was a Christmas gift. The first one I bought myself, with my own money, was one of those Capitol Beatles albums. Beatles 65 or Something New, I think. My dad picked it out for me.

Three Dog Night Golden Biscuits and Steppenwolf Gold - both purchased Christmas 1972 to play on my new GE Wildcat stereo.

A 45/7 inch. Dave Clark Five, Over And Over b/w ? Cost something like .35 at a grocery store.

My earliest recollection is a 45...Rusty Draper - Pink Cadillac. Flip side was The Railroad Runs through the Middle of the House.
But the first record I bought...wow...that's tough.
I remember being in a record shop and passing on the Beatles to buy an album of Hot Rod music by the Rip Chords. I also remember buying Surfin' with the Astronauts - a copy of which I have today.

Jimi Hendrix "Cry of Love". A friends older brother told me that Jimi Hendrix was the best guitarist in the world. Unable to discern hyperbole at that age I spent some of my hard earned lawn-mowing money and bought the only Jimi Hendrix record at the used record store. I had to ride my bike about 9 miles each way holding a record under my arm. Turns out my friends older brother was right!

I bought my first LP in '64 when I was 12. I did some chores around the house to earn the $1.99. I went to the drug store to buy the Beatles album. I got it home and man was I bummed to learn that it was not the Beatles.

It was called "Beatlerama" by a knock-off band the, Manchesters. It contained "I Want To Hold Your Hand", "She Loves You" and some that I'd never heard of. I recently found not one but two copies of it. Not bad music actually.

I had to wait a nearly year to get Rubber Soul.

What can I say, I was young (seventh grade). Couldn't get enough of Fox on the Run and Ballroom Blitz!

While I can't guaranty accuracy on this one because it was decads ago, I think the first record I ever bought with my own money was a 45 of Hanky Panky by Tommy James and The Shondels. I think it was 25 cents at the local dime store. I do remember playing the snot out of it on my little record player with the built in speaker.
I think the first album I bought was The Beatles - A Hard Days Night. I don't remember exactly how much it cost. I think it was $1. Got it from the same place. I don't have either of them today though.

Mine was in 1968 and it was Revolver. I bought it at the Willingboro New Jersey Mall.I was with my mother and father. It was a cut out and I still have it. Sometime later I went back and got Rubber Soul, also a cut out and I still have it. The punched holes the store used are almost in the exact same spot.

One of the bands that stood the test of time

Mine was from RUSH, Permanent Waves.. Then began a love for a group I still listen to til this day.

The Sylvers - Hotline on 45, I was about eight and remember riding my Schwinn Stingray to Silver Platters at Crossroads mall in Bellevue to buy it.

Three Dog Night - 'Naturally'.

Bought it for 'Joy to the World'. I was 12.

I listened to it recently, and it's actually a pretty good album. My least favorite song on it is now 'Joy to the World' though, go figure...

my first album i bought was -- shut down vol 2-- a bunch of car songs with the beach boys, jan and dean etc. still got it.
