It'll just run into the same problem as the whole 'plant based' thing that died a death. People won't buy it because they don't fancy eating it.

When a species can no longer identify food that is safe to eat their fate is sealed. This is just ONE of the myriad ways that technology is almost always retrogressive.
But but... just look at the marketing over the last 80 yrs. Processed "boxed" foods are a time saver and they just happen to be healthy also.
I'm not so certain that whether people "purchase" it or not is the question.
I wonder what choice many will have.
With that said, I'm rooting heavily for Beyond Meat and other such startups. Wouldn't a world where sentient animals don't have to be slaughtered en masse be a better one?? My friend slaughters hogs at a facility. Said that he has nightmares about the work, and that it weighs heavily on those who aren't full-blown psychopaths, and there are many in the industry.
one would have to be, I would think.
If/when it gets to that point, I doubt there will be any choices left.
As to Beyond Meat, 5 years ago the stock was at $175, Today, $0.73.

I think our modern technological innovations in INDUSTRIAL meat production is twisted and perverse and inhumane. It doesn't have to be like that, and shouldn't be like that.

You forgot that most delicate of Soylent Greens, the high-fat, marbled flesh of the trailer park denizens, complete with trace, radioactive elements and forever chemicals. The microplastics and the bitter self-loathing really elevate the dish.
Dang, man. If we could grow meat in a lab, and apparently, we can (just cannot get the fat distribution correct) then WHY THE HECK wouldn't we pursue it?
