The Knife Thread.....

Not sure I've ever posted a photo of this one. Here it is depicted @ Gibson's informational website re: military fighting knives, but it belongs to me. I'll take a separate shot of it @ home later:

Past the (presumed) owner's initials, only other ID markings (nb: none on the Parkerized blade other than "Camillus" - the manufacturer) are also on the (leather) scabbard, i.e., "MM1" (Machinist Mate First Class) + illegible name.

Very likely theater-made aboard a carrier or destroyer in the Pacific Theater.

Same knife is depicted in (Mike) Silvey's "WWII Knives" book @ page 173.

PS: It's sort of a riff on the "Aussie Style" of theater-made knucked knifemaking.

Nice posts folks. Fun to look at, especially the paratrooper's knife. I have never seen anything like it. How did you get it?

Since circa 1990, via an extensive network of like-minded collectors of things military, a trade which really exploded (heh heh) w/ the arrival of the interwebs. Trade worldwide and especially w/ Russia-based collectors. BTW, the "SN" the Soviet paratroop knife) @ post #427 is very similar to the US-made Gerber MK-II, ie:

(note: This one was manufactured in 1971)

Prior to the Nineties, I first got started during my USArmy years (1978-1986), then started trading again circa 1990. The "SN" paratrooper blade I copped during time in country, in USSR, probably around 1982-3. Most of the US military blades I collected were found @ bases (usually Bragg @ NC and Benning in GA), at yard sales, garage sales, etc. -- during those years.

Speaking of "growing" the collection, in a few minutes gonna post a couple of photos of a circa 1969 "SOG" fighting knife my brother picked up for me o'er the weekend.

1969 "SOG" w/ IRON GUARD (+ original scabbard & stone)... w/ 'Nam era SOF (5th SFG) riff on the old WW2 era Kiska Task Force DUI:

For scale, here's my brother (6'4" 230 lbs) holding this blade & scabbard:

Looks dainty in his effin' hand. (nb: That's his, not my, 5th SFG beret)

upload_2021-9-27_17-4-26.jpeg My blade collection has dwindled way down over the years, but still got a couple of good ones left, including this Cold Steel Trailmaster Bowie. It`s been torture-tested out in the woods plenty of times, it`s a tough mofo.
(Shown with a Colt Anaconda .44 Mag)

I wish my Randall looked that good. It was accidentally dropped in my small boat in the yard and laid in the wet and damp leaves for well over a year. It rusted badly and is now very stained.

Newer Schrade Old Timer's from Ace Hardware is my everyday knife. Re-gripped with some ancient and foul smelling Ironwood from out in the desert east of Sandy Eggo, California. Thanks gramps.

My new Case Kinzua knife just showed up today
