The game: I'll start with a false or completely meaningless fact, then the next poster below has to come up with another false fact using a word or concept from the previous "fact". So on and so on...

Please, don't use this for pointed sarcasm. Make sure that you obey forum rules. Also, the point of this is to generate funny new fake facts, not to repeat fake facts that some people really believe (and thus use this as a forum for complaint) or that people used to believe (i.e: the world is flat). But do make them obviously false!

I'll start:

Cashews were once used as money, hence the modern term "cash."

Lawsuits originated when a lawyer in 1805 borrowed a suit from another lawyer and failed to return it to the owner. The lawyer sued to recover his suit and the case dragged on for 33 1/3 years. The court finally gave the suit back to the lawyer's heirs.

Walt Disney was also the inventor of a well known computer product. It was originally called the Mickey Mousepad but has since been shortened to just mousepad.

When the aforementioned mouse pads first were introduced, they were given away by various computer retailers for promotional purposes. The vendors would sneak them into the packaging. This is where the expression "Slipping him a Mickey" originated.

Another Disney character, Pluto the dog, was responsible for the naming of the former 9th planet of our solar system. Astronomers originally thought the planet was a dog star and thought Pluto would be a fitting name for it. Lassie was considered but was voted down.

Lassie was originally supposed to be named Charlotte, but after the Queen of Luxemourg threatened to ban the show in her country they changed her name.
