The McIntosh Clinic Story

I never really liked the sound of 2100's so I bought DC 300' A's to replace them/ They worked great at 8 ohms which I used for the mid and tweeters. If you compare the distortion figures against my 2505 which were about the same as my 2100's the Crowns have about 1/3 distortion. It wasn't until the 7200 came along that there was a Mac amp that could really outperform the Crowns. The 7200 Macs of course did at all impedances from 2 to 8 ohms. The woofers were wired at 2 ohms. So Davie ran someone else's DC 300 A that used 4 ohms so I could see the problem with Crown amps. But As my Crossover was set at 250 HZ the distortion in the HF never became an issue. Here a test of my C-28 after it had been sold my Boss's friend. It was later sold to a friend of mine Crown Amps.jpeg Crown Amps 1.jpeg Crown Amps 2.jpeg Crown Amps 3.jpeg and is still going strong. Its really amazing how well a C-28 performed. Its no C-34, but then a C-34 is not a C-50 either. They are all enjoyable just some more than others.

The interesting thing about "moving up." is that if you had a C34 and then decided to start restoring motorcycles, you would love the sound from your stereo as long as you lived.

We now have the pleasure of intoducing the McIntosh Clinic Story written by David O'Brien. Visit our website at www.AudioClassics.com for more details. It is a great account of David's years of doing the clinic. A must read for any McIntosh enthusiast.

In recognition of this story, any Audio Karma member that stops in our store, will have the opportunity of having any of their equipment tested and rated by myself or Steve Rowell. We will walk you through every step and show you how your unit(s) are functioning. All of this, as it was with the clinic, is at no charge to Audio Karma members.

So sit back, read the wonderfull stories of the clinic and if possible, stop by!

I loved the clinics back in the day. I had a 275 for awhile, and every 6 months I'd take it to the clinic and they'd swap all the output tubes and say, there ya go! No wonder they had to quit doing that, tubes were getting expensive. Later I upgraded to a 2300. I lugged that beast to a clinic one day. The tech said "I have to test these fast or they'll burn out my dummy load!" That monster put out 390 wpc before clipping! I was so proud. Thanks for some great memories. I still have the amp too.
