The new Crosley TT is not what I expected.

Crosley seems to have a product one of us could recommend to a "newbie". DD w/gimbled S shaped arm, adjustable anti-skating, adjustable counterweight, standard headshell, variable speed and a strobe light. $220

Yeah, it's another Technics knock off. Regardless, it's the best thing Crosley has put their name on since they were making AM radios.

Yeah maybe, but heck no. ;) Too many turntables out there with a credible reputation, even if they aren't physically better.

How dare you?! Crosley is an old and respected name. :D

I'm not one who recommends a vintage/used TT or used gear in general. I prefer new. IME most "newbies" want plug and play convenience. That's frequently not part of the vintage experience. Especially if any work whatsoever needs to be done to that vintage piece.

Who else gives you a DD TT w/AT cartridge for $220?

I'll be keeping an eye out for reviews of the Crosley. I will of course, be keeping my tweaked VPI and the Micro Seiki I keep as my spare.

The Audio Technica AT-120xUSB table is a better choice than this, street price was $230 for mine...DD, AT-VM95 elliptical cartridge... A solid choice as long as one can live with no auto return. 90% of the feeling of a Technics table for a fraction of the price.

Yep, it's cheap so probably makes a adequate starter for some. Hey it got me to look up the specs at least!

Specifications:
Power AC power adaptor, DC output 12V 2A
Turntable speed 331 /3, 45 RPM
Turntable Dimension 17.72”x13.78”x5.47” (W x D x H)
Turntable Weight 10.8 lbs
Replacement Needle Crosley NP5
Needle Pressure 3.5+0.5g
Anti-Skate 0~4

I just wish the Crosleys and whoever who do these knockoffs would choose a better looking turntable than the SL1200 to copy.
It's just so boring looking design in the first place in my humble opinion.
But I guess I'm pretty lonesome in this regard so carry on.

No, you are not alone. Technics TT's have never been anything I've ever wanted. The SL-12xx series have never looked attractive to me. There are two exceptions I would never turn down. They are the SP-10 and SP15.

It's likely the Crosleys are built by the same company in the same Chinese city and factory as any number of low/medium priced TT's.

All I saw was a picture of a 1200 knockoff, no details re design, materials or performance, hardly call that a review let alone a recommendation. Not that I'm going to be in the market for an entry level table but Crosley will have to do something amazing to bolster their sullied name.

Starter and newbie are the same to me.

No offense meant Joe, it is interesting to see more entries to the new market.

I'm old enough to recall when Victrola was a respectable brand, matter of fact I bought my granddaughter one of those suitcase Vicky's when she was 4. She loves it!

The nursing home where my mother is residing has an old Crosley floor standing radio in the TV/rec room of her floor. I haven't looked closely but it appears to not be plugged in.

IF you're ever in Philly visit the Atwater Kent Museum.

There's no denying it's not your average Crosley. OTOH it's an order of magnitude better than most of what Crosley sells. I hardly expect anyone on AK to consider one for themselves. However, it's the best thing Crosley has out there.

Any personal experience with it placed head to head with a Fluance RT81, currently on sale direct from Fluance at slightly under $200? Canadian company, manufactured in Taiwan. Yes, DD vs belt (and I'm generally an admitted belt guy, and the Fluance table is really too lightweight to get the best out of the design), but still.... I'd go Fluance every time for all KINDS of reasons, even after quality concerns.

The "name" of this turntable means nothing. There are dozen of companies from the 50's and 60's that have gone out of business. The current owner of the trademark just licenses it out to the highest bidder (probably Chinese): Emerson, Zenith, Sunbeam, Westinghouse, Magnavox, RCA, etc. Mostly names old, retired people like me would recognize.

I'd call it legacy name products commonly seen advertised on cable tv aimed at the older folks who might still recognize the name. As said the name was sold or the owner gets royalties for using the long defunct company name.
