The new Crosley TT is not what I expected.

Not having actually seen one or even a review I can't pass judgment on it. It may be a steal or just another vinyl destroyer like some of their past offerings have been. I'm fairly confident it's not going to come out of the box properly setup though.

The "name" of this turntable means nothing. There are dozen of companies from the 50's and 60's that have gone out of business. The current owner of the trademark just licenses it out to the highest bidder (probably Chinese): Emerson, Zenith, Sunbeam, Westinghouse, Magnavox, RCA, etc. Mostly names old, retired people like me would recognize.
The RCA branded digital TV antennas that Walmart sells are extremely good. I first got one for wifey's then-new guest room TV a few months ago then went and bought another for a new M-series Vizio I got for myself recently. No idea of who actually makes them but for $30 they're fantastic.

Looks very very much like the Dual turntable that Techmoan reviewed about 2 years ago that was available at Lidl.
Only that one didn't cost $219 but only £89!
Maybe that represents more the value of the quality you're getting ;)

I was given a Crossly Cruiser as a leaving present when I (first) retired in 2014. I was polite at the time as my work chums at least thought about my interests bless 'em.

This looks like an improvement in the sense that hopefully it will not actually damage your records which with a tracking force or almost 8gm the Cruiser most certainly would imo.

DD will appeal to some but I'd like to see some specs on w&f as making a motor with reasonable performance is not cheap. I'd guess some of the belt drive options already mentioned would do better in spec and real life performance.

If it gets more people into vinyl great, at least it shouldn't put them off which my recent experiences with Donner and Aiwa BT tables (new cost about $200) would've done.

I'd call it legacy name products commonly seen advertised on cable tv aimed at the older folks who might still recognize the name. As said the name was sold or the owner gets royalties for using the long defunct company name.
I call them 'zombie brands'. The only thing of value remaining from long dead compainies. Names that are passed around from holding corporation to holding corporation untill one of them can stamp the name, like the breath of unlife onto a warehouse load of cheap asian gadgets.

Sometimes we are too quick to dismiss equipment from companies who's products have typically been subpar. Thanks for the positive brief review.
Still rocking my pl120 audio technica the first non usb version of the lp120 ,despite its age and perigee I really enjoy it ! With a few mods and a decent cartridge it’s pretty decent . Yes there’s better but for how little investment I have it I’m surprised how good it sounds use it more than my rotel belt drive !

Kind of surprised to not see any Blue Tooth technology in that turntable. For today's kids that would be a necessity I'm thinking.

Crosley has several versions of the C200. One of them includes a built-in phono preamp. Another adds Bluetooth. Still another version includes the phono preamp and Bluetooth.

the constant "kids" mention for stuff like this always makes me laugh. I'm 41 and know plenty of people older than me who listen to music purely with bluetooth devices, usually fed from a phone. Its probably a controversial thing to say around here, but some of those BT speakers don't actually sound too bad. It makes good sense to be able to interface with them, especially if thats the only audio gear a person has.

Yelling at clouds:)

Just fixed a DUAL 1209 heirloom for the daughter of a friend. It came with a small riaa and they are plugging it into a Marshal guitar amplifier/speaker that they have anyway. I don’t know if they also use it as a sound bar, but that might be possible, though maybe not advisable ;)
Next step is finding them a decent amplifier and speakers that can be shoehorned into their apartment.

Same with soundbars, especially in smaller rental accommodation. People have them for their TVs and might as well plug a preamp or turntable into them.

I got my mom a soundbar with a sub because the TV sounds awful. Its plugged into the Alexa and she plays music through it, or sometimes uses her phone to stream from Spotify via bluetooth. It sounds miles better than the phone just screaming away on the kitchen counter.

Yep. Blue tooth speakers, soundbars, or, in my case, a Bose Wave unit can work quite well. I've used a Bose Wave since 2008 for a bedroom system, main room system, or both. At present, my bedroom has a cheap, fully automatic AT turntable plugged into the Bose, and it's great for listening to music, as background sound for reading in bed, and as something to fall asleep to (no worries with the auto shutoff).

Add a blue tooth receiver to a vintage system or basic receiver and speakers ! a better yet very affordable option to the Bluetooth speaker !

“Who else gives you a DD TT w/AT cartridge for $220?”

I got a Sony psx600 biotracer with near new Signet 5 cartridge for $200

Last year, got a near new Yamaha 700, in the box , still had instructions , maintenance kit, packing, new Empire 1000e/d cartridge , all for $185.

A new China table? I’ll pass!

Not everyone likes or wants a used TT. When a newbie decides to get a TT they're not interested in perusing offers on CL or eBay for a couple of months. They want to have a TT so they can play the couple of LP's they've already bought.

Let those who dabble in audio dabble.

To those who understand, no explanation is needed. To them who do not understand, no explanation would suffice.

We're the hardcore bunch, and this is a decent enough offering for the coin and someone who might play their Walmart reissues of Led Zeppelin or more likely Bob Marley "Legend" to impress their hipster friends.

This crowd grows more mossy and belligerent every day. :(

Two very nice scores, but hardly the norm.

As much as I love good gear sometimes a cheap alternative is what the budget demands ! And if this holds a vinyl enthusiast over till they can find better why not ! As long as it’s not a suitcase player that eats vinyl ! You can’t always have steak , sometimes you have to settle for hamburger !
