ECM New Series
Brian Blade has always been my go to reference for the ECM sound but I have trouble describing that special "ECM sound" without reducing it to "softer jazz" or something. How would any of you fine folks on this thread approach a short hand summary of the "ECM sound" to beginning/intermediate Jazz cats looking to expand their listening?
So, what's the deal with ECM records and their artists? I feel kind of silly for asking - but are they contemporary music? Sort of modern Windham Hill perhaps? Thanks! I always learn something new here at AK.
